NEW SERIES

WASHINGTON NATIONALS at ARIZONA DIAMONDBACKS

: Chase Field, Phoenix

: 9:40 p.m., RHP Tim Redding (6-3, 3.59) vs. RHP Micah Owings (6-2, 3.73), MASN2.

: 8:10 p.m., RHP Jason Bergmann (1-1, 4.50) vs. RHP Brandon Webb (9-2, 3.01), MASN2.

: 4:10 p.m., RHP Shawn Hill (0-1, 4.02) vs. RHP Dan Haren (5-4, 3.75), MASN2.

: After opening the season as baseball’s hottest team, the Diamondbacks have cooled off some the last couple of weeks. Webb, the first pitcher to win his first nine starts since Andy Hawkins went 10-0 for the 1985 Padres, now has lost two in a row. Overall, Arizona has lost seven of its last 10 though it still holds a comfortable lead over the Dodgers in the National League West. The Nationals will see perhaps the Diamondbacks three best pitchers this weekend. Owings is especially dangerous, not only on the mound but at the plate - he’s a career .316 hitter with five homers in 95 at-bats and is drawing comparisons to Babe Ruth.
