PHOENIX - Nationals team president Stan Kasten and director of ballpark operations Matthew Blush have made this trip with the club, in part to check out San Diego’s PETCO Park and Arizona’s Chase Field for comparison’s sake with Nationals Park.

Kasten, not surprisingly, prefers his new stadium to these two, but he makes some good points about both. For as nice as PETCO is (remember, it’s in San Diego, how can you go wrong?) it has a few flaws, such as a concourse that doesn’t look out on the field and a smallish scoreboard for a park that only opened four years ago.

The Diamondbacks missed out a bit with Chase Field (formerly Bank One Ballpark). Even when the roof here is open, fans still feel like they’re indoors, as opposed to newer retractable domes built in Seattle and Houston.
