Here is another part of Obama's message that says even more for all American's in the same interview: ""“You know, when I was asked earlier about the issue of coal, you know — under my plan of a cap and trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket. Even regardless of what I say about whether coal is good or bad. Because I’m capping greenhouse gases, coal power plants, you know, natural gas, you name it — whatever the plants were, whatever the industry was, they would have to retrofit their operations. That will cost money. They will pass that money on to consumers.”"" What this is saying is even Natural gas and "you name it" but the main thing I see in this is that he is saying that any added cost or taxes on these industries is passed down to the consumers?? so I guess if the voters would listen to what he is saying that even just his higher taxes and spreading the wealth is going to make the cost on products and services to go up. But i already knew this, however I thought he did not believe in trickle down economics.

John McCain/Sarah Pailin's "time" came and passed a LONG time ago! John Kenneth Galbraith would be deeply frustrated that the Republican party cannot do better than George W Bush/Richard Cheney or this current ticket. The level of public discussion in our political life is atrocious. Of COURSE the entire locus of political discourse in the USA has shifted dramatically to the right ever since Ronald Reagan began his assault on democracy! Of COURSE the Liberals within the Democratic party have been pushed rightward ever since the military-industrial complex and the Pentagon began to command such enormous power over the national economy! Obama CANNOT single-handedly reverse over 60 years of militaristic dominance, but he CAN resist the insidious influence that the JCS exerted upon JFK and LBJ. He CAN understand how historically the Pentagon has done everything in its power to grow and aggrandize its sphere of influence within our nation's economic life. He CAN stimulate a far-reaching public debate on the PROPER role of the military in a truly democratic First World post-industrial society. He CAN assert the right of the government to properly manage the business cycle in order to prevent the types of abuses that led to the Crash of 1929 and the Meltdown of 2008! Obama CAN explode the myths of "deregulation", "privatization", "compassionate conservatism", "trickle-down economics", "monetarism", "free markets" and a host of other fabrications by means of which corporate tools and apologists like Alan Greenspan have enabled the elite to amass enormous wealth at public expense! Obama CAN initiate a series of programs that will use public funding to support education, sanitation, medical research, rebuilding of our near-shattered infrastructure, and provide a decent level of affordable healthcare to all citizens. These are NOT ENTITLEMENTS! They are RIGHTS, earned by US, the CITIZENS, with our TAX DOLLARS!! Obama CAN begin to focus upon this theme. He CAN initiate a massive public debate that educates our citizens about the fallacies of the elite agenda that has been rammed down America's throat over these last 28 years!

Obama CAN begin to expose the cynical ruse of neoconservative terminology! He CAN begin his own "fireside chats" to the American people. In those chats he can address many of the abuses that have been unleashed against our public in the name of "security" and "patriotism". He CAN discuss in detail why the public sector is VITAL in its role as watchdog, to PREVENT massive profit-taking by private companies at PUBLIC EXPENSE! Obama CAN point out for all our citizens, exactly how and why government in a modern capitalist economy has an obligation to exert its influence in such a way as to guarantee that allocation of human and natural resources benefit society as a WHOLE! Obama CAN explode the fallacy that "the market" will regulate itself! He can explode the fallacy that "the unfettered market" will properly determine the best way to "spend" our wealth and resources as a nation! In fact, the LARGER the margin of VICTORY in this crucial election, the GREATER will be the influence our citizenry exert upon the executive branch led by Barack Obama. The President under such circumstances will be JUSTIFIED in claiming a true and real MANDATE for change! There are a multitude of things that Obama CAN accomplish if he receives a HUGE percentage of the popular vote, and if the Democrats gain a HUGE electoral triumph in all races, local, state and Federal. Under THOSE circumstances, Obama will have enough popular and legislative support to drive several programs that put PEOPLE FIRST.

There is no question that the “business community” (read here “wealthy elite”) will be adamantly opposed to many of Obama’s efforts. He will have to craft an approach that is morally and pragmatically unassailable. He has the astuteness to select outstanding personnel to staff his administration. He has the brilliance of mind to formulate policies that will enhance our stature in the world, without alienating us from the international community. He has the perspicacity to consider long-term effects of tactics, policies, procedures and legislation that are implemented in the short term. He has the personal charisma to mobilize, galvanize and revitalize a huge segment of our citizenry for public service. His resume so far offers ample evidence of these and many other valuable qualities that have been woefully absent from our nation’s “leadership team” over the past 8 years! America desperately NEEDS genuine leadership, statesmanship, diplomacy, and a much more highly-evolved consciousness in positions of authority, more NOW than perhaps ever before in our history. John Kenneth Galbraith would, were he alive today, be QUITE optimistic about an Obama presidency. So too would JFK and RFK were they alive today! So too would Martin Luther King and many of the giants of the Civil Rights Movement who are no longer with us. Barack Obama is squarely within the tradition of the best and brightest political minds that have guided our nation through previous difficult times. FDR and his New Deal Brain Trust come to mind. Barack Obama is a Constitutional Law specialist! He is a community organizer! He is a U.S. Senator! He is a forward-thinking man of the people! He has a calling and he has the makings to fulfill the promise of our citizenry’s desire for meaningful dialogue about important issues! What we desperately need as a nation, as a body politic, as a citizenry can, and by right ought to be provided by an informed candidate with all the leadership qualities of Barack Obama. We will find out a LOT on November 4 regarding the future direction of our nation.

If you are capable of coming down off of that pedistal you coronated yourself uppon and join the other 99.99% of us regular Americans that don't voice their oppinion in an attempt to merely impress others with their intelectual superiority and state the fact, you would know Obama is a left wing liberal loon who will destroy our great country. You have got to be kidding me. This country is in no way in a position at this point in time to give up on coal. I have a lightbulb burning above me, do you? Alternative, renewable, clean energies sound great if you are an egomaniac who believes you are responsible for creating the internet. However, to the rest of us grown up folks who don't believe in fairy tailes, THEY DON'T EXIST YET. Are you people all blind, dumb and deaf or do you have absolutely no understanding of how the real country operates. Have you ever stepped foot out of San Francisco or whatever Liberal fantasy land you are living in. Your ideaogy is admiral, but the problem is, if you get your way, it's the rest of us NORMAL folks who will have to pay for you fantany land ideas. Please do your country a favor and stay home on Nov. 4th

Obama's policies will bankrupt more than just coal. Well it seems the election is upon us. It’s time to decide the direction of the United States of America for the future. Much of the world has voiced their preference and the American media has long demonstrated its preference. The first exit polls are in from Israel and they were a bit of a surprise. Reason as opposed to faith in the iconoclast seems to have ruled the day in Israel, going against the wisdom of prior polls. However, it’s too early to cheer for a possible epiphany occurring widely in the electorate. Want change? Real Change? Change that means change to an unAmerican life style? Change in why you get up or don't get up to go to work? Change from an America that is a strong leader to a European-like weak socialist America at the mercy of radical Islam? than, you vote for Obama! I am not voting for his kind of change...too radical for me! Barney Frank and the like! Fear McCain and Palin's adminitration now! Join me, McCain and Palin...straight talkers and non-unAmericans to clean out the crud in Congress. Vote McCain/Palin ticket I am.

Barry reminds me so much of what I imagine Adolf Hitler was like - smooth talking, surface-plausible to the inexperienced/uneducated, egomaniac, power-mad. But completely ignorant (or completely disinterested) in the effects of his socialist policies on the average hard-working American. The evidence on 'global warming' is completely against the purported goals of his 'coal-fired' clampdown. There's no need for such precipitous action except as another insidious socialist 'spread the wealth' scam. Yet B. Hussein would drive poor families out on the streets with raised electricity rates (or more likely force higher taxes on the rest of us to pay for it). Vote NO on the Anschluss! Vote Yes for McCain/Palin!

TrueFan1947 If Barack Hussein Obama is anything, he is nothing at all what you describe. You must have tongue in cheak whilst writing that post. Obama is merely what MSNBC and other liberal media say he is - merely what they say! Actually he is a charlatan bilking people that believe what the liberal secular media say he is. His background is rotted and corroded by unAmerican, even anti-American associates like the not so Reverend Wright, Bill the domostic terrorist and murderer Ayers, Palistinian leaders, not to mention the ultra liberal law faction at the out of touch Harvard University that would like to see one of theirs in the White House. A more unAmerican person couldn't have run for the presidency in today's America. I reject him and all that he stands for and I will use the only power I have as a citizens - my vote - and not vote for him.

Slapping huge carbon emission fines on the coal industry will mean, in Obama's words (Watch his interview with the San Francisco Chronicle in January on Fox News web site.) that electricity rates will skyrocket! This is what Obama states will happen under his cap & trade plan. We all know what happens, from recent experience, when energy rates soar: all prices go up, and jobs are lost, and our families suffer. Obama claims not to be an idealogue. But when a leader puts his own agenda before the economic strength of our families and our nation, that is putting ideology before country. Let's vote for McCain's balanced support for jobs, the economy, and the environment. Let's vote for our families, and put Country First again. McCain is a war hero; we have watched him for years in the senate fighting for our country, against the special interests. We have watched him fight against his own party to discredit Secretary Rumsfeld. We have watched him reach across party lines to work with Ted Kennedy and others. We can trust him to fight for us against the special interests, even in his own party. We can trust him to lead us to Energy Independence without bankrupting us. We can trust him to protect our families, and our jobs.

Obama has been, is, and always will be a liar. I will never respect him or believe anything he says even if he becomes president.

I'm sorry. I must have missed something. I thought McCain was for Cap and Trade. When did he switch?
