Newt did his job and the era has passed. We are now deftly on the road to the Africanization of America. So, if conservatives want to do this the right way, they need to get Michael Steele in there. The fellow is smart, black, and conservative. If anybody is going to bring the republican party into the 21st century during this intense period of Africanization of America it is Michael Steele. He'll also expand the conservative base deep into the black communities to include people that have come to the realization that the democrat party is under the dictatorship of the liberal secular far left and many, many African Americans are conservatives at heart and have genuine religious beliefs and do not favor unfetered killing of fetuses. They know that the democrat party has suppressed them. Go Michael Steele. You have it all over Obama. When it comes to leadership in the republican party Steele is the man - You can't touch this!

I am a (conservative) resident of (liberal) Maryland. Michael Steele is an impressive, solid statesman. I think Newt is a much more cerebral person, and more articulate, but the GOP will do well if either (both hopefully) lead the way out of the Bush woods. However, one can write the Obamedia template already - they will say in the same breath that race doesn't matter but Steele is not the proper kind of black.

Both are qualified with a true conservative agenda! As a conservative I'd be pleased if either one could lead the GOP! If these are our choices, we can't go wrong!

Michael Steele without a doubt is the man for the job. Newt has been in charge before. Time for new people. Mr.Steele is a gentlemen and a great counterweight to those of color moving up in the other party. Hopefully one day he will run for president and give us a real choice.

Ditto to Clarence! I am a conservative Maryland resident and very supportive of Michael Steele. He would be spectacular in defending the conservative agenda and giving America a wake up call!! As for 2012, I think Palin/Steele could have a winning ticket....PS We will Steele back the White House YOU BET'CHA!!

The nation has a right to expect her civil and religious leaders to walk the walk, not just talk the talk. The personal failure of conservative leaders has tarnished the credibility of our movement and may lead many Americans to reject our moral positions on the grounds of personal hypocrisy. I predict that throughout the next four years both parties will continue to vie for the attention of the ultimate swing vote – the religious right. We have the enviable opportunity to reinvent ourselves. How do we take full advantage of this strategic moment? We must consistently stand for a clear set of values and principles. As we are persistent and faithful, we will eventually move both parties toward our united agenda. Regardless of who is elected president the values of social conservatives concerning family, marriage, and the value of human life can become like unifying glue that brings our polarized political communities back together. This is a time for a moral, political, and spiritual renewal to grip the heart of the nation. My prayer is that this revolution will begin with us personally. We want to be model Christians. We want to see America populated by Christians who live so loudly that their actions are heard around the world. St. Francis of Assisi expressed what I am feeling in this way: “Preach the gospel at all times, and, when necessary, use words.” This article is an adaptation of an excerpt from Personal Faith, Public Policy, written by Harry R. Jackson, Jr. and Tony Perkins

We need Steele in the Senate or Governorship. Newt has led one republican resurgence, we need him to lead another. 2010 = 1994?

Gingrich should be the new party chairman. Now is not a time for "post racial" me-too-ism. The fact is, Republicans represent mainstream White values. The Republican strategy should be to dig deeper for more White support. Whites still cast 74% of all votes. It's not too late to stop the Hispanic invasion which will drive Whites into minority status and turn America into a violent, socialist, 3rd world country. Only a robust White majority backing Republicans can turn off the third world immigration spigot that will doom our nation to inferiority, and possibly even cause its fracture. It's time to answer accusations of racism with "so what" shrugs. In the interest of free markets, individualism, a deep respect for true personal merit and achievement, not to mention respect for community, Christianity, and law and order, it's time to fight for a preservation of a conservative White majority and reject the destructive and divisive forces of liberalism cloaked by multiculturalism. It's OUR nation and culture. It's time to tell Latin America, Asia, and Africa that they aren't invited to colonize it. They should stay at home and invent prosperity and liberty for themselves.

I too believe either Michael Steele or Newt Gringrich would be great. My first choice though would be Michael Steele. Newt Gingrich has already set himself up in a position to lead with his drill here drill now and other initiatives he is working on.

Oh please we don't need the great Arrogant Adulterer Newt to lead our Party. Really he's such a pompous know it all - he turns people off. He seems to live with Sean Hannity. When he's on TV we already know what he's going to say. Same old - same old. The plastic surgery he had didn't change his big ego. We need new blood and Michael Steele is a much better choice.

Ilona's arguments don't convince me. Perhaps because they were nothing but invectives. "Arrogant ..." "pompous ..." "live with Sean ..." "plastic surgery ... big ego" That, unfortunately, is a tactic of the left: build up "your guy" by trashing the other guy. We can agree that the GOP has lost its way - but let's not forget that the way that was lost was Reagan conservatism formulated and advanced so well by Newt. Michael Steele is an asset, as is Newt.

Michael Steele would be an excellent Chairman of the RNC. Newt is past his prime and the party needs new leadership. If we look what happened to the House of Representatives after Newt and his leadership team disappeared and we ended up with people like Tom DeLay and Mark Foley. We need an articulate leader who can challenge the President-elect, furthermore more good leaders need to be found in the GOP. I am sorry, but NO MORE of the hard core "CHRISTIAN RIGHT", who is only obsessed about one issue. We need leaders who can carry the fight of keeping Marxist Socialism out of our country. If the GOP doesn't stand take notice and solve the problem, there are groups who will! Believe me I do not want as an alternative to the Marxist Obama to be the Ku Klux Klan, which is what could happen if we don't WAKE UP - NOW!!!! Micheal Steele for RNC Chairman - NOW!

TruthMan

Newt Gringrich believes in the global warming fairy tale told by Al Gore in his fraudulent scam to turn green into gold. Treating CO2 as a pollutant and trade carbon credits is nothing more than a liberal attempt to bleed rich nations and redistribute wealth to the third world. This totally discounts Newt's ability to lead the RNC.

ronnor

Newt is the man. He has the organizational skills, he has the know how, he has all the political connections and he has the right ideas to take back government. He could electrify the Republican base because they know what he has accomplished before by following the precepts of Ronald Reagan who exemplified just what conservatism could do for the country. We really need someone to be able to explain the United States and why it has always been that shining city on the hill, Newt is a historian and he writes about the United States and he could bring back that tingle up the leg for the flag that only the liberal/progressive/neocoms can seem to get for the illiberal Obama. He took back Congress for the Republicans, he has that kind of know how that could put Palin in the White House.

kingcrab

I agree to a point with ronnor; unfortunately, the press would non-stop beat up on Newt. If we had Steele in front as the head, the press would have to be careful about how it attacks him. With Newt in charge of strategy and Steele out front with the media, the RNC would have a chance. It's a shame that Republicans can't unite behind these two.
