Just proves you can buy your way into political office.

I believe it was Mark Twain that wrote, "The best politicians that money can buy."

Just another sorry example of what is totally wrong with Washington.

I commend Mr. McElhatton for the work done to put this article in print and for his bravery in exposing the base rot of America's political system. Murtha should be court martialed for his speech and actions and effect on people serving in the military. It is clear money sustains his so-called public service. If the democrat party was upright the party cadre would eject him immediately and show us it is capable of rejecting what is bad and promoting good politics. As it is, the stench of Murtha and his party is unfathomable.

As a retired Marine, I was initially disgusted with his totally inaccurate comments about our men in Haditha - then his total silence when he was proven wrong. Attending a dinnner at which he was the featured speaker, I was totally underwhelmed by his lack of addressing a direct question and his (unfortunately typical, for so many politicians) non-answer. That he can still get away with being inept, out of touch, and irrelevant is a sad commentary on our electorate. We get what we deserve, I guess.

"showed how quickly powerful members of Congress can raise huge sums of campaign cash when their "safe" seats suddenly look vulnerable" -- Well, at least that applies to Dems. But aside from the money issue, WHO VOTED HIM BACK IN? His idiot constituents.

We have the finest voters money can buy. It's the voters that are responsible that money spent on advertising can sway them from doing what their instincts tell them is right. %50 of the population is below average intelligence, and average is determined by a curve. In the land of the blind the one eyed man is king.

Again and again we are presented with proof, as with Murtha's rescue by special interests, that only mandatory term limits are absolutely essential to pull our government back from disaster. That's OUR disaster.

It boggles the mind that they re-elected him after his comments. Was this simply because he was able to run more ads (thanks to HRC and others)? It is indeed a sad commentary on the voters in his district.

I wonder if Murtha actually took a calculated risk by making the statements, thereby putting his seat in "jeopardy" so that other members of the democrat congress would have to throw money at him which he could then sink into Pennsylvania, thereby giving its economy an albeit small shot in the arm.

jsyantiss

sikologik has probably hit the nail on the head. This glaringly smacks of Clintonism, not to mention now what will be known as Emanuelism. Even if not, it merely demonstrates how the Dems can say anything they want, and get away with it, because of their pervasive support in the mainstream media and Hollowwood--uh, I mean Hollywood, or did I.

It looks like Murtha is right about the perspecacity of his constituents. (I used a big word so they wouldn't be offended).

Then I went and misspelled it. :-P

This shows the ignorance of the voters in Murtha's district....a sad situation that's not going to improve.

I'm convinced that Murtha stole his seat. He may have threatened his constituents into turning out, fearing they would lose what little business he has brought to the area if he were not re-elected, but I suspect there was more involved than that. I find it VERY strange with the close polling in his Congressional race, and ALL of W PA turning bright red, that Cambria Co. which was red in the 2004 election, turned blue amid a sea of red!
