Tonight I ate onions sauteed in grapeseed oil, a half a stick of goat cheese, and soggy, thawed strawberries, then washed it down with some Walmart/Gallo "Oak Leaf" Pinot Grigio Chardonnay. Ate right from the pan, drank from the bottle! Cost me about $5 for this gourmet dinner.
I no longer cook for a living. After so long a period a time working for psycho prima donnas, 10-12 hrs a day, 5-6 days a week, nights & weekends, I realized that I couldn't keep doing it professionally forever. I'm only 29, but I felt like I was 60 when I worked like that. All that being said, some of the most "gourmet" dishes that I learned how to cook were pastas. Cheapest thing on the menu to make, & ususally the menu price is pretty steep. Here's 1 for you to try:
Pomodoro:
THINLY sliced roma tomatoes
julienned fresh basil
Thin sliced fresh garlic
1 teaspoon lemon juice
Pasta of choice
Extra Vigin olive oil
Boil pasta. While it's boiling, heat oil in saute' pan. Add garlic & tomatos, saute' over med to med. low heat, until the sauce turns a shade of orange. Add the basil now, along with the lemon juice, & s&p to taste. Toss with drained pasta, drizzle a little xtra virgin on top of each serving. NO CHEESE ON THIS ONE!!!
Resturant food is too unhealthy and too expensive. Plus, most resturants have bad service...
Rice and beans is real cheap and easy.
