What about Todd? Who cares?
Sarah Palin's "obvious smarts?" Charismatic, charming, attractive, ambitious... absolutely. But what evidence has she shown of any "obvious" intelligence? A five-year Communications/Journalism college major who can't name a single newspaper or magazine that she reads... and "also" can't put together coherent sentence. Puh-leeze, this woman is dumb as a house, and has NO business on the national stage.
Who are the "feminists" who are complaining? Neither you nor your unnamed pal give us a clue. I'm guessing your usual readers love little fables like this and don't mind the lack of proof. And while I strongly agree with the importance of fathers in their children's lives, I'm guessing the caregiver most of the time in the Palin household is 17-year-old Bristol. How often was she seen holding her baby brother, as opposed to her mother or (rarely) Todd? Bristol should be a great mother with all her practice.
Lynnett -- You're right. Readers don't like Mona Charen's "little fables." We much prefer your "guessing" about what readers like and your "guessing" about the goings-on in the Palin household. Watch a little TV and suddenly you're an armchair expert on the Palins? Ha! Then again, maybe you are onto something. I've never met a feminist yet who had anything but disdain for conservative women or gave a rat's rear-end about how they were treated by the press. BTW, you might want to take a gander at the latest column by Camile Paglia to read what that self-proclaimed feminist thinks about Palin. I'm guessing you'll want to hold onto your hat.
