Obama makes me sick. The only reason anybody is upbeat about him is if they are either socialist or communist, or have their hand in the same till he has. He's a joke.

I expect the "goodwill" to fade rapidly as people look at the pay of government service and say "No Thanks". Diplomats who are largely engaged because they contributed big amounts to get one elected does not mean they will be effective in a foreign country where values are different than in America. Most do not have the basic knowledge of what the local citizens go through on a daily basis or which party controls the politics.

Perceptions are important. We cannot allow others' perceptions to dictate how America acts, but how we act should include sensitivity to other peoples' feelings about us. America is in a unique position to help shape the world's future. All around the world people are hopeful for change that will lead to more peace and cooperation. Obama's administration would do well to follow up on the current goodwill with visible changes that show we share those sentiments.

Many of the bad-images presented to the world come from the New York Times, now a scandal sheet rather than a beacon of freedom. Abu Ghraib, while disgusting and wrong, was the mis-deeds of a few out of control soldiers that caused no real harm to the prisoners, unless you count the insult to those Islamic who are offened that a "dirty dog" and a "dirty and under-clothed female" were permitted to be near them. The Times broke the story but it need not have been exploded all over the world by repeated story after story with picture after picture. If their intent was to stop the bad behavior, they could have informed the Pentagon, writen a short story and moaved on. But the Times decided to go after America and the Bush administration. How many times did the Times put the beheading of Daniel Pearl on the front page? How many times the beheading on other Americans trying to help out in Islamic countries? How Many? Often our diplomats are not looking out for American interests but are looking out for their own careers. How many of our diplomats register complaints against Islamic abuses of non-Muslims, women? They have often sold out Christians, Jews and others while remaining close with the oppressors. So now Obama saves the diplomats too?

Sure. In other words, get ready for your US Gov't handouts on a global scale once again. THAT'S the ONLY thing the rest of the world cares about when it comes to the US. Protecting them from harm? That's just EVIL! Putting them on US Welfare? That's just WONDERFUL! Well, they have the champion of it being sworn in on January 20 (God unwilling), and they'll all be back on Big Mama's teet once again. Hallelooooyah, bro!

I believe the picture that accompanies this article is most appropriate-it appears a group of men are holding BHO posters in front of a group of sheep. Amazing!!!!!

I think 17 United Nations (nations of the world) violations by Saddam Hussein who tricked the United Nations and resisted the United Nations and Bush giving him very generous warning (nearly a year) that we were coming hold ever so much more weight than "feelings" of disappointment, regret, resentment and on and on. Saddam is dead because of himself. So cry the blues if you want, Hussein's actions are going to go down in history as a lesson to others. If the UN and U.S. suddenly change the facts and say; Oh, were truly sorry we removed Saddam Hussein. Then other dictators will be comforted. War has been the way of mankind from the start, and people feeling that war is bad or wrong after the fact and trying to lay blame on Bush is just silly.

Setrock, This is not name calling. You are an idiot. We put our own elite corps soldiers through worse training than the "torture" of Abu Ghraib. Been the done that. Sorry, but most of our American service people were not "disgusted by this clear violation". Can you show me where its a violation to put pantie's on someone's head, make them naked, or make them see someone who is naked ? Sleep deprivation ? What's next .... lions and tigers and bears ... Oh my !! If our service people cringed at anything, it was the stupidity. In fact, you are a big whining idiot.

This has nothing to do with diplomacy. It involves dysfunctional multilateralism and foreign governments wishes to use U.S. primacy to enforce their regions which they are incapable of. The U.N. is a consensus only organization, with compliance being regional. Like the bombing campaign in Kosovo, the diplomats only seek to control U.S. economic and military influence to their ends. Clinton wanted to turn control over to the ICC, Bush wouldn't allow their control, Obama will. It's was called internationalization by Kerry.

SetRockhead: NCDeBell did not excuse the actions of the few miscreants involved in that debacle. He correctly pointed out that trashing America has been the favorite pastime of the New York Slimes for some time now. They give aid and comfort to our enemies because they are our enemy, as they have demonstrated Times and again (bad pun, I know). Your excusing the yellow rag and exaggerating the extent of the crimes shows whom you believe, and that you seek any justification to slam President Bush. President Bush has made many mistakes, but he was the right man to have in office when the terrorists struck, and he was certainly a better choice than the traitor your party ran against him in 2004. Furthermore, I admit that was not one of Pendamon's most eloquent blogs, but the words he used are accurately descriptive of many of the world's current leaders, as well as the staff of the NY Times. Do they apply to you?
