"Our first residents fought in the War for Independence on the promise of the vote for all American citizens"
That's not exactly true. For example, women didn't have a "right" to vote during the first 100 years of this country's existence. The Founding Fathers, George Washington included, didn't believe in Woman's Suffrage (the right to vote) and this "right" was never included in the Constitution until much later.
Another "right" that is not included in the Constitution is the "right" for territories and Districts (like DC) to have a voting Representative in Congress. Only the Sates can have a voting member of Congress, so allowing DC to have a vote in Congress would require another Amendment. DC, of course, can have a vote without the necessity of a Constitutional Amendment, but first they have to ether join an existing State or Vote for Statehood themselves. I think the latter, Statehood, is the better choice.
"Darryl Dent died assuring the vote for Iraqi citizens, a right he did not live to see for himself."
Talk about misleading statements! I'm pretty sure that Darryl had the right to vote as soon as he turned 18. As long as he was an America citizen, he had that right. Could he vote in Congress? No, but then again, nether can a vast majority of Americans. Only MEMBERS of Congress, selected by the STATES themselves, can appoint a representative in the Federal Government. Everyone else, myself included, doesn't share that representative's "right" to vote in Congress.
Perhaps Obama should try to pass the National Referendum Bill which gives ALL Americans the right to vote for federal bills and laws via a nation wide referendum vote. Wouldn't THAT be the fairest way to be a part of our own government? Wouldn't that truly make us all equals?
I hope that a sprit of equality is the watch word for the Obama administration. DC citizens need to have the same rights as other americans. DC Statehood is a priority.
The elitist illuminati are going to do what they want to do, because they can. It doesn't matter what happens, because they have control of the government.
