Mandates, even more than history, are written by the victors. 52% is not much of a mandate for anything, but as long as the DNC retains the MSM in its pocket, it can and will spin it to be any mandate it wishes at the time. Obama's vagueness during the campaign actually makes this task easier. His mandate is a blank canvass, on which ACORN, MoveOn.org, and George Soros can paint their picture of America. What will be interesting will be to watch the faces of many of the 52% when they learn what "change" really means.

OLDGUY, you are right. Just before the election, a female Latino commentator told PBS' Bonnie Erbe that, if Obama's pro-amnesty and anti-enforcement policies were not what the American public wanted, someone else would have been ahead in the polls. Bull! First, when it comes to immigration, anti-amnesty/pro-enforcement folks didn't have a good choice in the election since both Obama and McCain supported amnesty. Second, immigration was not a deciding factor for most voters, and as the numbers in this article indicate, Obama was elected IN SPITE of his immigration views, not BECAUSE of them. Still, many pro-amnesty/anti-enforcement people will try to use the election results as "proof" that Americans want amnesty and an end to enforcement measures. Sorry, but that just isn't going to work.

We middle class Americans are hurting...we can barely take care of our own responsibilities, much less those of others! NO AMNESTY NO BAILOUTS to the automotive industry....they should abide by current laws...FILE FOR BANKRUPTCY, as the airlines did, and trim their sails to demonstrate they will produce fuel efficient vehicles! NO INCREASE OF TAXES OF ANY KIND!!! NO BAILOUTS for irresponsible lending, including mortgages! HOLD ALL decision makers in the private AND public sectors accountable for their decisions!!!

Eisenhower had it right about illegal immigration……. http://www.csmonitor.com/2006/0706/p09s01-coop.html Reagan, Bush, McCain-Kennedy had it wrong........... Illegal immigration exacerbates the conflict of "citizens rights & responsibilities" vs "human rights & dignity". The USA judicial system seems to get the two concepts confused. Responsible population growth in the USA is a key component of opportunity for all. If religious communities, the ACLU & the US chamber of commerce want to help illegals; perhaps they should spend more time & effort pushing their human rights agendas in Mexico & further south of the border.

What is it about " mexico " that; it has NOT developed as a nation / civilization ........vs Canada & USA ............? —per Professor George Grayson, during a CNN interview “I think we prefer to patronize the Mexicans or buy into their victimization argument. Mexico has everything, ~ oil, gas, gold, silver, copper, beaches, historical artifacts. If Taiwan could lease Mexico for 20 years, we gringos would soon be whining about the colossus in the South.” Mexico ~ with a GDP larger than most European countries ~ will not invest its financial resources into primary education, although it does pamper the children of the elites with virtually free education at the University of Mexico. " NAFTA was the original brainchild of “Harvard educated” former Mexican President Carlos Salinas, the economics genius who was the single most culpable factor in the devistating crash of the Peso in 1994.

I suspect Obama will be a lot tougher than Bush on illegal immigration. His first priority is restoring a living wage which means putting a stop to cheap illegal labor working off the books. He'll also be under tremendous to be tough because revenue starved local communities can't foot the bill any longer for health, education and social welfare costs for illegals. Had McCain not ignored illegal immigration in the campaign nor chose Governor Airhead as his running mate he might have won. (MARK KLEIN, M.D.)

STOP THE INVASION!!! UNITED STATES BORDER APPREHENSIONS (Source DHS/CBP) 1987--1,190,488------1995--1,394,554------2003----931,557 1988--1,008,145------1996--1,649,986------2004--1,160,395 1989----954,243------1997--1,412,953------2005--1,189,075 1990--1,169,939------1998--1,555,776------2006--1,089,902 1991--1,197,875------1999--1,579,010------2007----876,704 1992--1,258,482------2000--1,676,438------2008----723,825 1993--1,327,259------2001--1,266,213------2009----(beginning 10/01) 1994--1,094,717------2002----955,310 FACT: In the last 22 years, over 26 million illegals, have been apprehended, after crossing the border, into our United States. THE PROBLEM IS: Less than 1, out of 4 illegals, are estimated to have been apprehended. Mind boggling, isn't it. According to the U.S. Immigration Service another 6 million illegals in our country are visa overstays.

Dear Legislators, Mandate, AND STRICTLY ENFORCE, E-Verify for ALL employers, for ALL employees, and for ANY benefit, and the I.C.E. raids, as well as all of the expemsive new detention facilities, would not be needed. The illegals would have to begin leaving of their own accord. Think of the economic effect of giving the 8.7 million jobs, that the illegals have illegally obtained, using forged, or stolen documents, back to Americans. Think of the economic effect of 65 billion more dollars being spent in our United States, rather than being remitted to Mexico, and South America. Think of the money saved by decreasing I.C.E.'s effort. Think of it, and then let's do it!!! BOYCOTT ANY BUSINESS THAT HIRES ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS!!! AND LET THEM KNOW ABOUT IT!!! DURING HARD TIMES, WE CAN HAVE AN IMPACT!!!

hipshot

Anyone approaching this subject should keep in mind what happened with the 1986 amnesty. In exchange for legalizaiton of 3.5 million illegals, we were promised it would be the last amnesty and illegal immigration would be controlled. One has to recognize that the Democrats will promise anything, say anything, and set all sorts of conditions to get us to swallow the amnesty pill. As soon as the damage is done, all that stuff will go away. The other issue here is the numbers. Once family reunification and chain migration get into swing, the 12 million legalized aliens will swell to 50 million, 60 million, or who knows how many. This is significant to many areas. In energy, we have to build 44 nuclear power plants or 44,000 wind turbines to supply electricity for 100,000,000 people. This is bad news all around.
