Despite not practicing all week, Washington Redskins running back Clinton Portis was left off the team’s inactive list and is expected to start Sunday night against the Dallas Cowboys.

Portis worked out for 15 minutes on the field at FedEx Field around 5:30 p.m. and passed the evaluation of the coaching and training staffs.

Cornerback Shawn Springs, meanwhile, will not play, missing a fourth consecutive game with a calf injury. Springs was on the field briefly but did not undergo the same sort of workout Portis performed.

Portis took to the field at 5:15 p.m. and did agility drills with running backs coach Stump Mitchell and director of rehabilitation Larry Hess. He ran pass routes, did sudden stops and starts and took handoffs. Coach Jim Zorn, offensive coordinator Sherman Smith and, from the training staff, Bubba Tyer and John Burrell, watched from the side. Following the workout, Portis talked with the entire group before leaving the field.

Portis entered the week second in the NFL with 995 rushing yards.
