They wont reimpose the ban but they have made it all but impossible to drill any where there is actually enough oil to make it profitable to drill, that way they can blame the energy companies. "Its not our fault that gas is $5 a gallon and/or rationed. We gave them leases but those mean awful energy companies refuse to drill.." Most of all the known oil deposits are still OFF LIMITS! And if the oil companies do find another strike withing a place where they can drill - the environmentalists have enough lawyers to put it on hold long enough for the Dems to find a way to prohibit any actual drilling." That is why most of those leases they have are not being drilled - they are being tangled in court battle after court battle.
Nor will Democrats push the 55 mph speed limit.
The real question is over time will the lack of a ban actually translate to more drilling and not just more leasing?
The environmentalits and the accomodating courts now have a Democrat administration to side with them every impeading legal step of the way to actually drilling for and then producing oil and gas. Once a lease is granted and Big Oil forks over billions for the lease, all Big Oil has really accomplished is being able to move on to the endless "studies" sought by environmentalists and granted by the courts. The purpose has always been to stop or at least delay any exploration and production.
Well that and to also be able to point to all that land that Big Oil is just "sitting on" and "doing nothing" with.
"I don't think there is any intent at this point in time ... to return to the same position we where in" before the ban was lifted, Mr. Hoyer told a gathering of reporters Tuesday at the National Press Club in Washington. No, they will only return to 99% of of the position held before it was lifted. Politicians and especially Democrats speak in relativisms. It only has to be different by 1% to not be the "same". They can't use regulatory capture on the energy industry but when they use it on the environment, they can control the energy industry, it's that simple. You notice the media didn't ask what his position would be, just blindly accepted the statement that it wouldn't be the "same".
Palin said it, as did other right-wing officials. The liberal illuminati will not drill, and now they're finally admitting it.
