Boehner is still sounding like Democrats lite. The main proposal here is giving a middle class tax cut. How original! I think I heard Obama promise a tax cut to 95% of the people. Don't rehash Reagan times, he said. No, let's forget about the best times the Conservatives ever had and continue to be just like the Democrats, but not as bad. (That worked well this past election, didn't it McCain.) And the flat tax is dead, so forget about it, he said. That's forward thinking. Let's not even TRY to educate the public about the benefits of a system that would improve the economy for EVERYONE and would remove the class warfare that Democrats thrive and survive on. Most conservative ideas will have to be taught. Bush did NONE of that. And that is the key to why Republicans lost the last election. If Republicans want to be in the majority again, they must choose a few major concepts and begin to teach them to the public. This will take a while. Republicans are moaning like they got destroyed in the last election. But the good news is even with a candidate as bad as McCain was, Republicans still were very close to half the vote. We only have to teach and persuade a few people. But it will do no good at all to keep on trying to get people to vote for Republicans by acting like Democrats. Given the choice to vote for a real Democrat or a fake one, voters will choose the real one. Boehner still sounds like he wants to be the fake Democrat, instead of educating the voters about the obvious benefits of low taxes, less regulation, less intrusive government, and sanctity of property ownership.

Do not arbitrarily dismiss an idea just because someone feels that it won't "happen in our lifetimes". A retail sales tax or a flat tax or a combination of the two is something to talk about. To replace the payroll tax and federal income tax would take some of the power out of Washington and give it back to the consumer. In those states that do not have an income tax, they are doing just fine.

The Republicans have looted the U.S. economy for the past 30 years, do we really want the republicans to "fix" the economy? The Republicans have already exploited America into a third world country, do they intend to make us a forth world. The Republicans economics has not trickle past the CEOs pocket except for there campaign contributions to the GOP. The GOP has always been anti-worker, anti-small/family business, anti-union, and anti-American, the GOP would sell there own mothers if they could hire a illegal immigrant to replace her and make a profit. The GOP looks at anyone making less than $100,000. a year as just the peasantry, the GOPs worst nightmare is that real Americans will vote, not just there Reaganite and Taliban/Christen base.

The agenda should include protection for American workers - not the illegal aliens flooding across the border night and day www.borderinvasionpics.com Videos taken by on the border hidden cameras show big numbers.

Once again the Republicans sell out upper income wage earners. Boehner states that a “flat tax will never happen in our lifetime” Well it seems to work perfectly fine for investment income where we have a flat 15% tax rate on all capital gains and dividend income. When Reagan left office the top tax rate on ALL income was 28%. Since then the rate on wage income has gone up and the rate on investment income has gone down. He goes on to complain about “income tax credits” not being tax cuts at all. Well it was Newt Gingrich that gave us the Kiddy Credit instead of cutting a single tax rate on wage income. Obama is simply doubling down on the Gingrich idea. The only thing that differentiates the two parties today is their stand on gay marriage and abortion. Pity the Libertarian cause!

davepensacola: "Republicans have looted the U.S. economy for the past 30 years". Where have you been? Supply side economics created more jobs and more economic growth than at any other time in world history. Please feel free to continue to believe what you want to believe, but the facts stand on their own.

I've got a suggestion. Why doesn't somebody (dem, rep, ind, lib) come up with an idea that will instill some confidence in our markets. I'm never going to invest in equities ever, unless some oversight and enforcement with teeth is put into practice. Soon. And I'm not talking about Martha Stewart and this other inside trader they're going after. I'm talking about tearing apart the managements of all these financial corps.

I couldn't imagine a credible Republican economic policy agenda because once in power the agenda becomes political expediency and lying to themselves and the public. The GOP lost its credibility with the centrists it got in the Reagan Revolution. The party doesn't stand a chance to regain power turning to clowns like Palin and the Joe-The-Plumbers.

Republicans should not be afraid of the word profit, whatever policy has to recognize and conform to free market principles and laws. First they have to stop the country from being completely taken over by unions and other socialist inspired special pressure groups that own the Marxist about to enter the White House. If they can't stop the unions no point in planning. Let's see what the Republicans are made of? The UAW bailout currently being discussed will give an indication.

The first post by "Cornelius" is right on the money. He writes, "Most conservative ideas will have to be taught" and "If Republicans want to be in the majority again, they must choose a few major concepts and begin to teach them to the public." Cornelius suggests "educating the voters about the obvious benefits of low taxes, less regulation, less intrusive government, and sanctity of property ownership." I agree that educating the citizens on those four issues is key to getting the U.S. on the right track to prosperity. As a first, and very easy, step, let us all point the way to the FairTax.org web site. It is replete with well reasoned and researched information. Then let us commit ourselves to being well-informed and vocal in our views, with family, friends, coworkers, and acquaintances.

So now that the GOP have to regroup, and the left-wing illuminati have to continue on doing what they normally do, spend and leave the world in an uproar.
