I just called Continental airlines for my airfare that dropped from $279 per ticket to $214 per ticket (times 5 tickets is $325 difference) and even though I'm not changing anything like written in the article, they told me I would be charged $150 per ticket to reduce my fair!! I can't believe that since this article states they shouldnt be doing that... ??
Ask to speak to a supervisor. Some agents are clueless. I've even had supervisors who needed to check with more experienced colleagues, but in the end did the right thing.
I just got off the phone with Continental trying to get the lower fare applied (same itinerary on an unrefundable ticket) without the $150 fee. They said they do not waive the fee even for their elite one-pass members (which I am not). You may want to look into this more closely.
Just got off Phone with Delta and tried to get voucher for difference after airfare dropped. They said they will charge me $150 change fee even though keeping same itinerary. I have been Platinum Medallian for the last 6 years - over 200k miles last 3 years. Awful treatment if you ask me.
