I don't understand why the GOP wouldn't want thsi guy as their candidate! He is the republican version of obama. And Obama worked really will for the liberal illuminati so go on and elect him!
"For this association of members to choose to outsource its leadership would, I believe, be an abdication of our responsibility,"
WRONG!
You abdicated your responsibility by attempting to be "Republican Lite" with Sen. Mccain(L). I don't support liberals. I don't care what letter follows their name.
"168 committed members of the Republican National Committee are a powerful army of qualified advocates for Republican principles;"
WRONG! (again)
The problem is that the RNC abandoned "Republican principles" in an attempt to woo liberals. Mr. Reagan showed how it was done. The RNC is too arrogant/stupid/reluctant to acknowledge that it's CONSERVATIVE principles that win American's hearts and minds, not some half-baked liberal me-too-ism.
I'm quite certain I've never voted for any of the members of the RNC. And as far as allowing "nonmembers to exert undue influence", perhaps Mr. Haugland could start by not allowing liberal trash such as the New York Times to select Republican candidates.
I think Mr. Steele wold be a good start
I was very surprised to find out in this article that Mr. Steele supports the Log Cabin Republicans and that is stance on abortion is unclear. If all this is true I do not want him as head of the RNC.
But even before I read this article I did not want him because he is terrible when he fills in for Hannity on Hannity and Colmbs. He never can articulate the Republican position on any issues and talks in platitudes and bumper stickers.
With all that's facing the party I'm going to have to give Steele two thumbs down.
A lot of clubs are restricted. "private club" is operative here. My dad used to play golf with his friends at Indian Springs Golf which used to be(because it may not be now) Jews only and dad was NOT Jewish, he played at Burning Tree, no women allowed, (thank GOD) but I could drop dad off or pick him up.
Why should we dump fine people for political correctness?
I choose my friends and together we meet where ever we want.
Go figure?
Get over this guilt trip GOP! before it is too late.
And the RNC has done so well the last two election cycles that we should only look for more of the same? Steele will get more media attention than someone unknown to the public like our last Chairman.
After a little research one can easily find out that Blacks make up 12.4% of the population, Asians 4.4 % of the population and Hispanics 14.8 % of the population, yet, the make-up of the republican party consists of a full majority race (Caucasian)---almost 100%. The republican convention last summer did quite a bit to underscore visually the "small tent" view of the RNC. At least this time we were not treated to the 2000 year display of dancing minorities. The resistance to "change" will take many forms and produce many excuses from the RNC. It will also further them producing such out of touch candidates such as the importation of Alan Keyes to run against Obama. Dawson is not "the one" . I am gratified to hear that he believes we are all "gods children"however, did he believe that there was real diversity at his club because the "others" were all working there? The RNC must evolve with the times or not, it is possible to become irrelevant, out of touch ancient, then gone. Keep in mind Powell, Watts and others are defecting from your ranks. I doubt if America wants another frat house admin.
The article noted that Michael Steele was elected Lt.Governor of Maryland. True as far as it goes. He ran as part of a ticket that was headed by former Governor Bob Ehrlich. He rode Ehrlich's coat tails to victory in 2002. In 2006 he ran against Ben Cardin for the U.S.Senate and got his hat handed to him. He lost in a Republican primary race for State Comptroller back in the 90's. When he ran for Lt.Governor the party had to pay him a salary. He certainly did not hit any home runs as Lt. Governor.
I don't see him helping to turn the Republican Party around. No Super Star here!!!!
Let me just tell Curly that this white woman in VA and her husband and two adult voting sons are looking towards Michael Steele running this tattered party. I do believe Curly you have lost YOUR mind that you would think that 168 of you will decide that ONE of the "insiders" will run this party goes to show YOU ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM!
If the RNC EVER hopes to compete in dollars and dignity you best believe that someone who excites this base the way Michael Steele does and just the way Sarah Palin did had better be running the show or we will do what we have been doing and do a runend around the party and DONATE directly to conservative candidates? I do hope those 167 beyond your intellectually dishonest self are thinking long and hard about the kind of money they want to be working with in the future.
OBTW Curley I have put your email and phone number all over the conservative sites and am looking forward the the BlOWBACK you get on Monday morning....get your receptionist ready because your phone is going to be ringing OFF THE HOOK.
You know Curly it is funny that you tools who have been running this party in the ground want to continue to do so! You seriously have learned NO LESSONS behind the 2006 and 2008 elections...It behooves me to say you are indeed a STUPID LITTLE MAN!
Mr. Haugland, let me just state for the record that it is exactly your type of party “leadership” that WE, THE AMERICAN PEOPLE, NO LONGER WANT in OUR party. Yes, WE the AMERICAN PEOPLE are TAKING OUR PARTY BACK. The time for people like you playing your games is over. And now it is obvious that, because you are scared and feel threatened from the type of reform that someone like Mr. Steele is going to bring to the Republican Party, so you request that he withdraw from the RNC Chairmanship campaign.
To quote your own words from the article – "Your chosen path to leadership of the Republican National Committee exemplifies the problem we should immediately seek to resolve, that being the practice of allowing nonmembers to exert undue influence in the process of selecting our leaders" Mr. Haugland wrote Mr. Steele. "Getting the Republican Party back on the right 'track' is a job rightfully left to the Republicans who have been elected to run this railroad."
The first “problem” in the Republican Party that WE THE PEOPLE want to resolve is to remove individuals like you from it. It is because of the stale ideas from individuals like you that have already run this “railroad” right into the ground (and it’s so obvious after recent elections) that WE WANT Michael Steele appointed as RNC Chairman in January 2009. The "undue influence" that you spoke of isn't coming from Mr. Steele but instead is coming from the Republican base and millions of voters. After past years, it is also clear that you and people of your insight don’t know what they are doing. Your vision is the type of vision that OUR PARTY no longer wants – don’t you get that yet? Or is it that you do get it and that is why you’ve asked Michael Steele to withdraw, so that the Republican Party will be the same old cronies and status quo. We no longer want people of your low-grade intellect in OUR party. If need be, we'll continue to take our donations and give them to people like Michael Steele directly and subvert members who think like you and they won’t have the funds to get elected. (Are you listening RNC, haven’t you noticed that donations are down? WE THE PEOPLE can keep them down if you like – don’t you get the message yet? People like Mr. Haugland are costing the RNC donations and thus elections.) It is beliefs like yours that WE THE PEOPLE are going to remove from OUR party, so no wonder you’re scared of individuals like Michael Steele. Your ignorant statement alone that you believe you know better than the millions of Republican voter voices is one thing that we won’t miss when you are no longer part of the new Republican Party.
You could be sure that there would be many more postings like mine except that this is a holiday weekend and many people are traveling. But don't worry Mr. Haugland, I'll make sure that this article makes it's way around the internet to the Conservative base. Have a nice day.
After reading the other posting here, I think republicans like be the party of irrelevance in the 21st century, as being in favor of the Log Cabin Republicans and ambiguity of women's rights means that the republican party should embrace a "Whites Only" and "conservative principles" which are euphemisms for we don't give a darn about inclusion and when you see a Black or minority in the ranks, that's enigma not the norm, so “don't be worried”, we have to do that for appearances sake, but we don’t mean it.
So what if Steele is getting resistance from RNC members. He can always tell people Jack Johnson endorsed him.
OK IsladGyal, I'm calling you out. It's obvious that you’re nothing more than a racist liberal scared of someone who is both intelligent and conservative like Michael Steele. There is nothing about color here unless it is an issue to liberals like you. Conservatives don't bring up race; it is only liberals that make an issue of race. Why don't you crawl back into your hole and turn the lights out because there definitely aren't any on between those ears of yours. As for Sarah Palin, I can't wait until Palin wins in 2012.
