In this time of globalization where governments are using behind the scene guarantees to help their companies be competitive in the market place a lot of government bankers are worried. I could write a book explaining how all this works, but, to put it in simple terms - they purchased something that has decreased in value or become worthless on the market as they have no new buyer or payer. Thus the write down of assets and lost of income. Fannie Mae and Freddy Mac due to the Democrats not bringing them in line caused a lost of value to be assigned to houses that did not exist in hiper inflated prices. The prices of these houses have now dropped in value creating a paper loss to the ultimate lender who purchased the so called securities.

The entire issue needs to be treated like an economic brownout. What are the trigger mechanisms that indicate the network has exceeded it capacity and the collapse of a node or series of nodes is going to bring down the entire system? Global regulations would just screw it up, its linear thinking. They need to reevaluate the failure indicators and develop contingency plans for isolating the collapsed segment and helping bring it back online. Power companies and network operators do it all the time. Regional disaster recovery and global business continuity planning.

Europeans are blaming USA as a way to stick it to their taxpayers. If other countries had not jumped on the bandwagon of greed, they would not be experiencing problems. USA taxpayers should call Congress and protest that bailout money will be used to buy trash from foreign banks. Yes, the bailout provides for that. The mystery of the $700 billion figure has yet to be addressed. But with all the pork the Senate is adding, plus buying foreign trash, the number is likely to be much higher.

Now.... let's be civilized about using our tax money and borrowed money.. to spend in foreign investments here.. none would want to see Iraq lose any of the rumored $79 BIL PLUS oil money they stashed in NYC banks.. would we?
