'Peace dividend' conflated with security theater. Democracy is the rule of fools by fools.
Yet another example of a short-sighted decision by an operational commander that will have long-term repercussions for the nation's national security. Where is the oversight? Where are the higher levels in the National Command Authority that should be asking the hard questions about this? This is a foolish decision that's leaving our nation vulnerable. Like 9/11, the closure of this facility represents a failure of imagination on the parts of senior military leaders viewing current and future challenges only via the limited confines of their own military career paths. Maybe putting a Navy admiral in charge of NORAD isn't such a great idea --- one that should be reconsidered in future command assignments for this vital billet. I really hope that the next presidential administration takes a hard look at this, and imposes change from above.
Lets, see. We have a maximally hardened command center that's been recently upgraded. The local commander prefers to spend his time in an unprotected building, so he moves everything from the hardened site into the unprotected building, which also has inadequate power for the combined operations. Is their no oversight by the higher echelons? This is a national-level operation!
This whole things was maybe carried out by Forrest Gump?
Where does this end? Our National security should be of the utmost importance. Skimming in other areas...maybe...but not when it leaves us with the poop flap of our drawers down. What is going through the head's of our leadership?
