MG,
I have a concern that some of the alternatives are pretty pricey. I don't want another fiasco like we had w/ ethanol. I'm curious to see how effective "clean" coal is since that is how we get most of our electricity.
I was looking into an electric car, but they seem to be limited in speed (30 mph) and if we can't get electricity to charge the batteries...what then? It seems that there have been some forward movement in solar technology...I guess my concern is the cost per Kilowatt as to what were paying now.
MG - I and many other Americans own stock in Exxon-Mobile and other American oil companies (and foreign ones too).
I invite you to research just what a "Company" is.
You will be surprised to find that I and other stock holders, many of whom hold the stock in retirement accounts, are both members of a "COMPANY" and American people - all at the same time!!!
Amazing when you actually think about it.
Since the US consumes (according to Pickens) 24% of the world's oil, we will consume the lion's share of any oil produced in the US.
I for one would rather see US companies getting part of Picken's cited $800 billion a year we spend on foreign oil.
And I would rather see the oil royalites paid to Alaskans, Alabamians etc. rather than to non US states and peoples.
It makes a lot of sense.
It's time for the Congress to GET REAL on energy, and stop trying to figure out even more ways to STEAL THE PEOPLE'S MONEY.
First, alternative power with which to produce electricity is ALL WAY TOO EXPENSIVE. There is no such thing as a FREE LUNCH... Subsidies, tax breaks and stuff like that may HIDE the real cost per kilowatt but all they really do is hide the THEFT of the money from the taxpayers in different ways that are not as easily seen. This kind of STEALING should be properly CRIMINALIZED and Congressional Members who propose such phony solutions thrown in jail ASAP.
Second, Congress needs to pass a law PREVENTING these nutty greenies from interfering in the production of cheap fossil fuel energy. The cheapest possible energy should be a mandatory goal and those who oppose should be treated as the TRAITORS they really are, and hung from the nearest pole or tree.
Third. Since nuclear power is the closest thing to fossil fuels in realistic costs, Congress should begin to FAST TRACK the construction of new nuclear power facilities immediately. Research into new forms of power should continue, of course, but UNLESS and UNTIL they reach the REAL cost per kilowatt of electrical power produced by fossil fuels or nuclear, they should remain EXPERIMENTAL. Congress has already stolen enough of our money to last for the next TEN DECADES and then some. They should be BANNED from stealing anymore!
Oh yeah. For those of us who will NEVER be able to afford $75,000 electric cars that have to be recharged every two hours, Congress needs to ENCOURAGE the building of new oil refineries, port facilities for the import of natural gas, and the start of new drilling for OIL.
Just once, let's see if these crooked bozos can do ONE THING RIGHT without screwing up BIG TIME! I know the odds are well above 100 to 1 against it happening, but it doesn't hurt to ask.
Did anyone pick up on Obama's 10 years to alternative energy statement last night? But 10 years to get new oil wells online is scoffed at. The main reason it takes oil wells 10 years is the permitting and greenie lawsuits. Nuclear is clean safe and 21st century. We won't glow in the dark, and we can dispose safely. Sending our money out of the country is insane when we have resources and technology to keep our money, jobs and national security here. If this weren't a politicized issue, we would have all forms of energy production booming in this country. We would be net exporters of energy for Heaven's sake!!
