Only the last sentence is incorrect: "Politicians might be paying for this debacle for years to come." Not likely. Unless by some miracle of alarm and awareness the voters force accountability, soon, no politician will suffer from this criminal enterprise. Total and complete violation of the Constitution, as I read it, and nobody in power gives a damn!
So WHERE are the INDICTMENTS of ALL these scurrilous scum????
Instead of frying the scum who caused this fiscal disaster, the DOJ and the Democriminal Party are planning Soviet Style SHOW TRIALS for 'those responsible' for firing 9 U S Attorneys.
EXACTLY HOW DUMB IS THAT?
I don't know if "Politicians might be paying for this debacle for years to come." But one thing for sure is that we the taxpayers will be.
I do take umbrage with the article asking where the Bush administration and Congress was during all this.
The Bush administration talked about reforming Fannie and Freddie years ago. Alan Greenspan and others gave testimony in Congress regarding Fannie and Freddie. When Greenspan said Fannie was "putting our entire finanicial system in peril", I believe he meant it.
Every year from 2003 to 2008 Republicans proposed the Federal Housing Enterprise Regulatory Reform Act.
John McCain gave a short but very precise floor speech in support (and was a co-sponsor) of S 190 in 2005.
Greenspan, Bush and McCain failed, but it wasn't because of not trying. Without 60 votes in the Senate, Democrats blocked the reform every year until this year.
Even the Democratically revered President Clinton tried to get Congress to reform Fannie and Freddie (at least that is what he recently claimed) and even said it was he and Republicans that were thrawted by the Democrats.
Funny how when the house finally is in the process of burning to the ground Democrats finally are ready to call the fire department. But regulating Fannie and Freddie in 2008 was about 10 years too late.
Next up: The financial crisis caused by Social Security and Medicare. Once again Alan Greenspan has given testimony after testimony regarding the two. Now who has been trying to heed his warning and reform those two for what seems like foreever? And who has blocked all attempts?
A Democrat's work is never done.
