It is the sad fate of the Lebanon to be located between two violent neighbours who see her only in terms of their respective territorial ambitions and war aims. In this she not so much different to pre-WW2 Poland.
Perhaps the EU or NATO (with whom Lebanon has long standing cultural ties, and with whom it shares an ideal of pluralist democracy - unique in the Middle East) could take the Lebanon under their wing and protect it from its violent trbal neighbours.
