Here we go again! Is it the Nineteen Thirties? Will we never learn? Merkel's unilateral acquiescence to Russian arrogance also reveals what happens without strong American leadership. We have provided them protection against the USSR, now Russia for sixty years as they have become soft and complacent in socialism and their politicians have pandered to anti-American envy. There is no easy way out of this quandary, but ignoring Putin's aggressions is not acceptable. Russia's fleet in exercises with Hugo Chavez's Venezuela in this hemisphere is a dangerous sign of worse things to come. Please, God and American voters, don't let Obama reach the White House!!!

The Obama loving Europeans have made their choice. They have decided to kiss the Russian Bear's -ss and have sold themselves out via energy blackmail. There is a lesson here for Americans, so wake up.

Dear WT editorials, There are two different things that you seem to be messing up together due to whether the false patriotism or lack of "Russia issue" competence. Or probably both. These two are democratic values and foreign policy motives which are known to be far less than pure. Replacing one with another is extremely dangerous as our christian history knows many cases of speculating even on God's name burning up civilizations and violent changing people to our beliefs. What is more disappointing is that most of those cases had nothing to do with original values but with the need of money and power. Lets be exact at least once in a while. Today's Russia is not democratic. Russians enjoy internet, religious freedoms, travelling around the world and many other great things Soviets couldn't even imagine. But the political system and major TV broadcasters are definitely monopolized. But that is not an excuse for calling say oil driven Iraq invasion as a part of "war on terror" or even "struggle for democracy". That is too expensive for a competent nation to let the likes of George W. Bush "finish papa's job". And that is definitely not an excuse to prey at nationalistic and autocratic Georgian president as if he was a virgin Mary. Even if he likes America and speaks fluent English. You guys seem still wearing those cold war glasses.

<<<If Mrs. Merkel's logic is sound, then, in light of her rejection of the NATO bid, Russian troops should withdraw completely from South Ossetia and Abkhazia*** sound logic? where?!?

White House officials and Senate Democrats met in private three times last week to craft health care legislation. Do you think these discussions should be more public?
