WOW, nicely summed up Tony Blankley "Whose side are you on, comrade?" I guess you just don't understand this is exactly why the Republican party is so fragmented, the rights vs the moderates, the thinkers vs the reactionaries. You pretty much summed up the Bush/Cheney way of governing, us vs them.....and demonize the them as much as possible. друг везения бога

If a few others in the Republican party felt the same way about this as does Mr. Blankley, maybe they could begin a Long March through the bunkers and minefields manned by the entrenched powers within the Beltways, to carve out a two-party political system in America.

BannedMonique: Really deep. So deep I don't comprehend whom Bush and Cheney, as if inseperable, have demonized. On the other hand, it cannot be any plainer that the two subjects you claim to demonize others are in fact the objects of demonization. The video, printed and audio record is repleat for history. The long term results remain for historian to record and today's politicians, obviously like yourself, to bandi about.

Blankley's "rebirth" of conservatism will take place in a landscape dominated by a population and a cast of political leaders who beleive, foolishly, that prosperity can simply be created out of thin air, by the government, through legislation and wishful thinking, and by "speading the wealth around." Conservatives, being non-activist by nature, have been too trusting with their constitutions of honesty and integrity and self-responsibility, all of which have died slow deaths these past 40 years or so. Conservatives have irresponsibly handed over to liberals almost the entire media, the control of the schools and universities, the unions, the courts, and now they are going to cede the entire United States government. I dare say the re-birth may be a still birth, or worse -- aborted with a pair of progressive scissors stick in the back of our necks. Yes, there will be a monumental struggle for the soul of the country. That assumes, of course, that the country has not first committted suicide, and that a soul still exists to fight for.

I CAN'T SLEEP NOW BECAUSE OF WHAT THE POLLS SAY ABOUT OBAMA LEADING. I LAY AWAKE NIGHTS NOW THINKING OF WHAT THE NEXT FOUR YEARS ARE GONNA BRING. IF WHAT TONY SAYS IS RIGHT, I'M LEAVING THE PARTY, I'LL BECOME A LIBERTARIAN, OR GO BACK TO WHAT I WAS WHEN I FIRST REGISTERED TO VOTE, AN INDEPENDENT.

My apologies. Believe, and stuck.

I WOULD LIKE TO MARK TREEWOLFs' COMMENT AS NON-SEQUITUR.

RE: I CAN'T SLEEP NOW BECAUSE OF WHAT THE POLLS SAY ABOUT OBAMA LEADING. It's going to be a long EIGHT years for you - I suggest working out an hour a day - take long walks in the park - listen to your favorite music - breath.

I am on your side. Keep up the good work and make these people understand that their are people that are conservative and very social minded. Helping the poor ( of which I am among them at the moment), prison reform, standing for the most endangered species in America (the unborn) are just a few of the passions of my heart. I have never seen anything so low as the Dems going after Joe the Plumber. What a crowd they are. In my city a lady ripped a McCain Palin sign out of a guys hand at a news rally. I never saw that on the news.

When you control the communication, you control the voter. This government and country are not run by Democrats or Republicans, it is run by Media. It always has. What the moguls of power who own/control the networks and newspapers want is what they serve up to the American people. Unfortunately the public is too unthinking and stupid to figure it out. They just run around saying I vote for "WIIFM" and then complain about all the other issues. It is disgusting. You don't know what WIFIM is? What's In It For Me

Thank you for having the clear-sighted ability to cut through Noonan's snobbish Palin put-down. I hope that once the election is behind us we can concentrate on re-building the (true) conservative movement!

Don't hold your breath. I thought that the GOP would have woken up after the '06 elections, now it's only gotten worse and so are the results. Americans don't want extremism in any way, shape or form. They never have and never will. The sooner that the party pushes the ultra right wing evangelicals nut cases back into their churches the better off we all will be and I can vote Republican again like I used to. If conservative extremism is what you want to continue pushing, be prepared to become a highly marginalized party with more losses to come.

Are you trying to lose elections? I agree with the poster below. I am an independent voter that could have voted for McCain under different circumstances- like, if he had picked Bloomberg. Bloomberg is the Repblican party of the future- young (well 30ish) independent voters are repelled, not attracted to the radical wing Palin represents. Republicans can win on this :reform, fiscal responsibility, greater inclusivity (why do you think we love Jindal?), strong national defense (not offense- too expensive) and a loose association with "values" and families- while leaving behind the intolerant discourse on gay people and abortion (talk solutions, change in attitudes not just "ban roe!", judges who interpret the law with respect for past decisions). plus, you are going to need a great candidate. start looking. oh, and he can't be mormon.

When the Republicans run conservatives who campaign as conservatives they win elections, when they run liberals they lose elections. You would think even politicians would recognize these facts.

Mr. Blankley-- once again you are right on the mark! A very good commentary. Keep up the fight-- we will definitely need your help in the months/years to come.
