If the next president doesn't take what is happening in Afghanistan seriously they may end up with similar circumstances to the tragedy on 9-11. We can't afford to lose Afghanistan or Pakistan - not in this day and age. It's true - our officials have put the war in Afghanistan as a secondary problem. Now they see what a mess has been made and they don't know how to fix it. Well, you can't win if you run away and you certainly can't expect the Afghan people to stand by us in the future if we walk away from them.

The war in Iraq is a different front to the war in Afghanistan, just as there were three fronts during WWII there are several in this war. Given the limits the Democrats place on the military budget (so they can use the money to buy votes) one of the fronts has to be shorted funding. Until the rest of the nagtion wakes up to the massive threat we are facing this will continue to occur. One front will be shorted and allowed to fester while the other fronts get the money and temporary victory.

Well, Bush inherited what Bill Clinton ignored or didn't finish with Iraq - 911 --- so what else is new?

One front will be shorted and allowed to fester while the other fronts get the money and temporary victory. ============ Wow - that is the most succinct description of what happens when you turn away from one war before it is won in order to start another that will make you look better to history! Thank you, rtk_51. Afghanistan would not now need "a new strategy to counter growing Taliban and al Qaeda militancy", if Bush hadn't seen there was more fame and honor for himself, and money for his Halibuton and KBR buddies, if he attacked Iraq! Almost ONE TRILLION dollars and a collaped economy later... Bush leaves one heck of a mess for the next POTUS and generations of yet to be born Americans to clean up and pay for.
