I think this is typical Bush politics. I've read articles during his first election stating that he would come on strong during the first years of his time in office and then compromise in the final years. I think McCain is correct in that North Korea and the terrorists alike view any compromise as a weakness. U.S. primacy is receding. If we use a policy of "principled diplomacy" against North Korea, Iran and terrorism, it will probably fold.
Capitulation by any name is still appeasement, and always by spineless officials who promise much and deliver disaster.
