Those voters who "thank you" for leaders like Obama and Biden are kidding themselves. The country is committing suicide in voting for those two misfits, who will institute a tyranny. Wait and see.

theonedyg

I don't know what kind of tyranny you are talking about, bfsand. Most of these voters are voting their interests. They are working class and by most calculations (read the recent commentary in the NY TImes by the newest Nobel winner in economics) will benefit more under Obama than under McCain. That's the irony of Joe the unlicensed Plumber: he actually should be voting Obama too, or at least all the real plumbers should.

I don't know who these people you are that you interviewed...unless ALL of them were African-American and just want to say they "voted for the first black presidential candidate"...because they sure as he11 ain't conservative Southerners...I consider myself conservative and a Southerner, and NOTHING that Mr. B.H. Obama says means anything good to me...let's list the things I don't like about him, shall we? 1. He whole-heartedly supports abortion on demand, and taxpayer funded, at that 2. He HATES the fact that I own firearms and could use them to defend my family, myself, or my hard-earned property from a criminal 3. He wants to turn the United States into some version of Chavez' Venezuela 4. He thinks that ALL whites somehow are responsible if ALL blacks are not doing well, unless you are an uber-liberal white, of course 5. He wants to sit down and chit-chat with dictators and international thugs, people who only deserve the boot of the US military up their backsides 6. He thinks "gay marriage" is a great idea, and will make sure that clergy are forced to "marry" these people, against their religious beliefs 7. He wants universal tax-payer funded health care...which unfortunately dovetails into... 8. He wants there to be no such thing as "illegal aliens"...thus all citizens of Mexico or any other nation who can get here automatically get to SPONGE off of the citizen taxpayers...instead of standing in line and becoming Americans the hard way, the way MY forefathers did. 9. He thinks that the things Bill Ayers did are "old history" and that the man is some sort of a real educator 10. Finally, he wants to make fuel MORE expensive, just when the weak economy is making it cheaper, AND truly believes in Man-made Global Warming... If these aren't enough for you, I can put down a few more, but I think you get the gist...meantime, I'll pray for a McCain/Palin victory and cling to my guns and religion!

Kmooneyham: It is the greatness of our country that you are entitled to your views. However, I don't think you are entitled to a monopoly on what a 'conservative Southerner' is, and simply because they don't think the way you do does not instantly mean that they are ALL blacks who are unthinkingly voting for Obama because he is also black (wait, he's half white!). Most of these people are voting because what Obama is offering is in line with their interests and needs. They have thought about their vote. You have no right to take that from them. Furthermore: I come from a Bible belt state, I am a devout Christian, and I love to hunt and shoot guns on our family farm. But many of the things you say are frankly troubling. I live in a city that now has a huge Hispanic population. Most, if not all of them I have met (I have helped volunteer teaching English, among other venues) work harder than most of the white conservative people I know who sit on their butts and watch their houses fall apart. They contribute to our economy, doing work no one else will, and make the culture here richer. They start businesses and churches, learn English. Your blanket accusations are unwarranted and borderline racist. Finally, global warming is a matter of scientific consensus now. In this matter you are simply sticking your head in the sand and denying factual evidence. Calling it a matter of 'belief' betrays a grave misunderstanding of how scientific knowledge arises and also your self-imposed ignorance in this topic. I am for the most part centrist/conservative, but I will not deny scientific evidence. Unfortunately: the Republican party continues a trend towards making decisions based upon ideology rather than empirical evidence and solid intellectual argument. This is perhaps the greatest reason I am frightened by an obscurantist like Sarah Palin on the GOP ticket. I, too, will cling to my guns and religion, and I will also vote OBama!

Okay theonedyg, lemmie see if I got this straight...You're a centrist/conservative Christian you say. Does that mean you believe the Bible to be true? Like that abortion and homosexuality is wrong and harmful for families? Or you just call yourself Christian and pick and choose the things you like that fit your lifestyle? Lemmie guess, you don't believe God created the earth either because the scientific consensus is clearly for evolution like global warming is... I'm sorry but there are many things you can get a scientific consensus about but it doesn't make them right. When Bill Clinton came along modeling to our children that it's okay to lie as long as you can get away with it, the academic community followed suit and frankly you can make research show what you want it to...like that homosexuality is a genetic thing. False it's not, has never been proven. It was a political arm twisting that made the psychologial community capitulate. Crack open that dusty 'ol Bible you might have on the shelf and read a bit about what God does with a community that departs from His values. He tries and tries and is very patient but when 50 million children are disposed of in this country because of our selfish behavior, things have to change like with the children of Israel. McCain sure enough aint perfect but at least he and Palin have the voting records on godly values that Obama and Biden DO NOT. If your number one issue revolves around money in this election and you say you're Christian you are out to lunch.

Does ANYONE on the site blog about the content of the articles???? I was thrilled with this article. I feel it was very well written, rich with interviews and discriptions. The ending left room for a good follow up article on people being harassed at the polls. I think this was a good article. I would like to hear MORE about Charlie Williams! He sounds like a true American Hero!

Flexfamily, your argument is so weak it amazes me you'd even attempt to make it. You question theonedyg for picking and choosing the things he likes which fit his lifestyle. Well how about you? DO you believe adulterers should be stoned? The bible says they should.(Deut. 22:23-24) Do you believe someone who curses god should be stoned? The bible says they should.(Lev. 24:10-16) Do you believe someone who rebels against their parents should be stoned? The bible says they should.(Deut. 21,21) If you don't agree with this then you're conveniently picking and choosing what fits your lifestyle as well. The Bible is full of things which in a modern world are absolutely ridiculous and most Christians have decided not pay attention to these things.

One tning to note is liberal flight from the home states they have destroyed. They are now migrating to states that have done quite well without them. Witness: Detroit, Oakland, Minneapolis, Buffalo, Cleveland...do southern states need the types of "culture" that have ruined these areas? The liberal transplants think the beliefs that destroyed their towns are now "good" for their new home states.

The photograph of Charlie Williams raises the spectre of someone who is stealing valor. He claims to be a veteran of Korea and Vietnam. May well be, but he has an Army Infantry Combat badge and a Naval combat action ribbon on his chest which unless he served in more than one service is highly unlikely to be true. He also is sporting the Southwest Asia Service Campaign ribbon from the Gulf War, which would make him at least 58 years old at the time fo the war, also highly unusual. Some of his other medals raises the doubt that he is not who he claims to be. His ribbons and medals look impressive but I think a few of them (and maybe all of them) were bought online or an Army/Navy store.

American society has come full circle from the last Great Turning (the twin tragedies of the Great Depression & WWII) to this Great Turning (the twin tragedies of 911 and BushCo). Palin and her modern-day cultural crusaders, hell bent on legislating morality for all instead of justice for all, are destined to become a footnote in history (see Carrie Nation and Prohibition). Neo- and Theo-Conservative Ideologies are finished for good, soon to be marginalized if not completely ostracized, and the Republican Party is finished for at least a generation. Love what theonedyg says: Unfortunately: the Republican party continues a trend towards making decisions based upon ideology rather than empirical evidence and solid intellectual argument. This is perhaps the greatest reason I am frightened by an obscurantist like Sarah Palin on the GOP ticket. I, too, will cling to my guns and religion, and I will also vote OBama!

I lived overseas for the last ten years and recently returned to the U.S. Clearly everything changes, even the Washington Times. This lead article would fit nicely in the Washington Post- it is a subjective impression piece, vivid perhaps, reflecting the views of those the journalist encountered...but it is as much about shaping the landscape as reporting it. The narrative of the national press has been about reporting the inevitability of Obama's coming victory for some time- I could buy the NY Times, the Post or many other papers to see that media imposed version of reality...I always turned to the Washington Times expecting something better

. An early shift towards Communism already one week before the election. Obama's censorship of anyone dare to question his Marxist policies. Proof: Joe Biden in an interview with Barbara West of WFTV, a Florida TV station. Ms West asked Joe Biden about, "Obama’s connection to ACORN was a concern, she asked whether his “spread the wealth” was Marxist and whether Biden’s own comments about a “generated crisis” suggesting America had lost its standing in the world. Within moments after that interview, the Obama-Biden campaign later told the station it was cutting off access because of the questioning. Louis Farrakhan of The Black panthers said, "When the Messiah speaks, the children will listen." According to Obama, they can only listen, but dare to question. Sound like Hitler ? A Marxist Obama has the markings of Hitler. Remember your history, Hitler traveled across Germany and also promised the Germans 'Hope' and 'Change'. Barack Obama's new bumpersticker: Obama One Nation One People From 1930’s, Deutschland Ein Volk Ein Reich Ein Fuhrer

You can vote for whom you want to. But for all our sake do it based on the truth!!! For the past eight years the main stream press has blamed everything but kidnapping the lindberg baby on Bush. Most of our problems are directly caused by social manipulation of markets and can be traced back to DEMOCRAT's including the run up in the price of oil and the housing crash...The republicans fought both of these things, but the press is hell bent on hiding anything that might hurt the chances of the man who THEY want in the white house. THE PEOPLE are supposed to elect the president the PRESS is supposed to be an unbiased reporter of the facts and the truth. If Obama wins because of this...we will never have a legitimate election again...we might as will give up voting and let the press determine how we should live, what jobs we can take and how much we should earn.
