One thing certain about Gustav, this is not the first time something like this has happened and it won't the last (I don't care what Al Gore says he can control with carbon emissions). Those states that are susceptible to hurricanes need better contingency plans. The federal government should not be the first responders. All of those state governors (Texas to Florida) should share in Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery assistance. Florida seems pretty adept at it; maybe they should look there for a baseline model
Both comments below are right on. Nagin is a mental midget and Blanco was completely dysfunctional. They stymied President Bush and FEMA at every turn and the Demorats had the temerity to blame Republicans. This should not surprise anyone since the negative blame game is the typical Demorat stock in trade. The problem was that the Bush Administration, for some reason, did not put the blame on Louisiana's dysfunctional government where it belonged.
