All Ponzi schemes fail when the number of "marks" available or willing to participate falls below the number needed to fund payouts to the earlier participants. Eliminating the "or willing" constraint merely delays the inevitable.
The fact that the Ponzi scheme which is the "crowning achievement" of Saint Franklin is a "creature of government" does not exempt it from its ultimate fate.
The fact that the Ponzi scheme which is part of the "crowning achievement" of Saint Lyndon (Medicare) is in worse shape financially is partially a function of the fact that it began on day one paying the early participants with money it hadn't collected yet.
While agonizing about the two existing, failing Ponzi schemes is fundamentally unproductive, we would be far better to concern ourselves with the new, potential Ponzi scheme championed by Toady Kennedy, attempted by HRC and embraced by "The Big O" - single payer health care. Its potential for catastrophe dwarfs both SS and Medicare.
Poor Charles Ponzi is probably rolling over in his grave, agonizing over what a "piker" he was and the opportunities he missed.
A Declaration of Withdrawal from the Republican Party
I can’t take anymore disrespect for conservative values, and unless the Republican Party wakes up and gets it’s head on straight real soon, I will be taking my vote, my time, energy, money, and passion from the GOP and taking it to the Libertarian Party to send a message to the Republican leadership that I will not be taken for granted. I believe that it is solid conservatism that wins the day and elections - limited government, individual responsibility, and a strong national DEFENSE (secure the borders!), and certainly not conciliation and surrender to Democrats to the point that our differences become blurry.
The Libertarian Party seems to be a perfect temporary home, the GOP has its work cut out if its sincere about winning me back, even President Reagan said “Libertarianism is the very heart and soul of conservatism.” I will be doing everything I can to sway like minded conservatives to join me in this exodus and vote for Bob Barr for President and Wayne Root for Vice President on the Libertarian ticket. Both of them were recently Republicans, and are among those countless conservatives I‘ve heard myself say “ It wasn’t that I left the Republican Party, it was the Party that left me.”
As a "real" Libertarian, which Barr is definitely not...
Yes, Barr's info on Social Security sounds basically correct, but he fails to identify inflation as the cause, and proposes to perhaps borrow even more money to correct the wrong.
Actually, inflation is the only reason for the continuing annual increases, which pretend to make the government appear as "the good guy".
What government needs to do is stop the Fed from causing inflation, which is possible by reining in the Fed via prohibiting it from manipulating interest rates, expanding the money supply, and interfering with fiscal / monetary policy.
Inflation and the resulting economic collapse are the real issue here. I asked Barr several times to address this, but nadda. Sadly, McCain and Obama have yet to address this, and all three of them are responsible along with the rest of congress.
This leaves America with nowhere to go but down. My own website at
http://morality101.net has been trying to spread this word for months.
