Well, it is easy enough to prove it is not safer to drive 55 than 70 or 75 as long as the freeway is designed for it. It takes 20% longer driving 55 and it is not 20% safer to drive 55 so it is less safe to drive slower and for more hours. As for mileage, it would be better to reward manufacuturers to make cars that get the mileage you want at 70 or 75. Emissions are my expertise and I am not convinced the emissions would be lower at slower speeds on the freeway. It is more likely they would be higher if traffic jams are accounted for.
When Senators become 'senile' as Mr. Warner has clearly demonstrated he is, they need to be sent out to pasture, and Virginia has lots of that available.
Hit the road, John. You once were an asset to the Senate, but no more. You deserve thanks for your past endeavors, but now it's time to say goodbye, and tomorrow would be an excellent choice; before you do serious damage.
