So, now we begin the process of nationalizing the various GSEs. It's just a paltry $25 billion or $40 billion or who knows how much debt the taxpayers will assume.
Sure, fire all the principals at the GSEs, we all know they had no help from congress and the last two administrations getting into this mess. Still, someone has to be blamed and it may as well be the fat cats pulling in huge salaries for essentially bankrupting their organizations.
While we're at it, why not just go ahead and nationalize the oil and power companies as well? Do it all in one fell swoop and get it over with.
I need to correct my earlier comment. I should have said, "So now we begin the process of re-nationalizing the various GSEs."
I forgot that Fannie started as a government run agency and was converted to a shareholder entity in 1968.
