Forgotton war to Cons. Dems have been arguing for years this should have been the main theater of the war on terror. Guess being a convicted felon erodes ones memory that for the past 5 years any attempt by anyone to say so was treated as treason.
"Dems have been arguing for years this should have been the main theater of the war on terror."
No, they haven't. The Dems have been arguing against the war in Iraq for 5 years. It's only been the last several months that the dems have been arguing for an increased effort in Afghanistan. This is because the increased attacks in Afghanistan have occurred only because of the success of our forces in Iraq. The terrorists know that Iraq is a lost cause for them so they're now pouring in Afghanistan in order to defeat America SOMEWHERE. They need that victory in order to regain their lost credibility and to create a base of operations once again, just like they did ten years ago under the Taliban. We're not going to allow them this "victory" though.
It's interesting that, to the dems, Afghanistan is the ONLY theater of war even though terrorism is a world wide problem and this type of conflict has no real theater. You must fight terrorism where you find it as terrorists do not respect any national boundaries.
In regards to Iraq itself, Iraq is a central country in the Middle East and we NEED valuable Middle East allies in this war. This is why the terrorists tried to create an insurgency after the fall of Saddam's government. They knew that, if we failed in Iraq, they could extend the war in Afghanistan to the point we'd abandon them to their fate. Unfortunately for terrorism, President Bush understood the importance of Iraq and held firm against even the dems in Congress who wanted to abandon a Middle East ally just when they needed us most.. Because of Bush's understanding of the global nature of terrorism and his commitment to the Iraqi people, Iraq will, in just a few more years, be in a position to help Afghanistan, and any other country, fight terrorism as Iraq is gaining valuable experience and training for just this goal. This would not have occurred had Saddam been allowed to continue his reign of terror in Iraq.
