How typical of the Ass Party (don't get mad at me for the mascot) to claim "taken out of context" for this one. I'm probably being labeled by the followers of the great Obama-Lama, even as they read this, as some Christian, right-wing, uber-conservative, intolerant, nutcase hick. But sorry I don't fit into your little category you like to put those that disagree with you into. I'm sure there are some out there that think this is the "smoking gun" that proves Sen. Obama's "muslimness." I personally could care less. This country was born, in part, from the need for religious freedom. What bothers me is that if this truly was a Freudian slip, this speaks volumes about Obama's penchant for "change." (i.e. he will "change" to suit whatever situation arises in order to further his ambitions.) If it turns out he aligned himself with a Christian church for selfish, political reasons, I will have lost all respect for him. If his true identity is Muslim, then owning it would have given me great admiration for his courage in embracing it. If the previous scenario is true, then it says that Obama has stereotyped all those intolerant "gun and religion clinging" types as people that would never vote for a Muslim. Maybe he's right. But don't judge how people will react before they have a chance to. Assuming you know what a group of people will do based on their race or religion is how you define "prejudice." It's better to be hated for everything you are, than to be loved for something that you're not.

Personally I could care less what his religious background is but just be honest about it. IMHO, I don't believe he is religious at all. Anyone who believes in partial birth abortion can no way claim to be a Christian, Muslim, or even Buddhist or any religious affiliate. It's quite obvious that he joined the Trinity church for political purposes. He is as corrupt a politician as they come with no moral standings, firm positions or beliefs in anything other than ambition.

I don't know of a christian who would ever mix up and say they have a Muslim faith. I can handle the 57 state slip up, this slip up is just plain weird.

Immediately corrected by George not Obama. It was George that said, "you mean Christian faith?" Obama looked at him strangely and said, ahhhh, yea. It was very weird. My husband and I had recorded the show and played it back several times. We couldn't believe what we were watching.

The US was a country founded on the principle of religious tolerance and freedom of conscience; millions who inhabit this land will find themselves fortunate to share in her bounties equally and without discrimination based upon religion or faith. But the secular polity in the US appears to divorce itself from its founding principles when religious discrimination and intolerance informs the mind of her people and institutions of the State. This intolerance and prejudice may make the US claims of a secular polity farcical and will make her efforts at World Leadership suspect. If the expression of Obama is subjected to a careful scrutiny, it does not appear offensive for two reasons: (I) the interviewer did assume from the expression that Obama's reference to "my Muslim faith" was mistaken when in fact Obama referred to the said expression with an intention to refute Republican tirade against him that he adheres to the Muslim faith. (II) Obama's reference to "my Muslim Faith" does not betray his Christian credentials; he continues to be a true Christian and a reference to the "Muslim Faith" was occassional.

Many the slip between the cup ad the lip. Obama is at risk continuously. His deliberate "measured" answers are part of his defense mechanism. He needs to run through his programed answers to avoid letting the cat out of the bag. His answers seem calculated. He needs to answer slowly so he doesn't make a revealing remark. He rarely gives an answer directly from the heart. With enough exposure more of the real Obama may slip out for us to see. I believe his two memoirs are cover that he can hide behind. The problem for all of us is there is little of the content in them can be verified.

It was a nice try by ozeir-arif to rationalize what happened between Obama and Stephanopoulos . Our idea about the separation of church and state has nothing to do with what occurred. The problem with what was said centers on the fact Obama didn't even notice the "slip". Additionally people start to be concerned when there are an excessive number of protestations by a person about themselves. Obama's claims of religious fervor are an example of this behaviour. Also I always become concerned when a person starts a dialogue by saying "I'm telling you the truth." or an equivalent remark. That phrasing is a red flag for the listener to start doubting the speaker. The problem is that Obama resorts to these terms consistently in his stump speeches and conversations.

Gee did Obama have a senior moment?

How in the hell could something like that be a verbal slip? Just confirming what I already believed to be true.

The reliance of small town America on guns and religion was a verbal slip too. After going to the same Christian church for several years and not hearing a word the pastor is saying and then separating from the church because of what the pastor said, how do we really define Obama's faith? Someone needs to ask Bill Burton why no outlet is bringing up the Ayers-Obama relationship. Ayers was terrorist before the term was defined.

"I'm not suprised that the only outlet doing this story is the Washington Times" Neither am I ABC NBC CBS CNN MSNBC Washington Post and New York Times should be reporting this news but since it would hurt Obama they are trying to hide it. Too late. After today they will be forced to at least mention it. Too bad Rush is off today but he will have a lot of fun with it tomorrow. Obama will have trouble campaigning this month. He can't eat during Ramadan and will have to pass up all those lunches.

I do not think the religion of a candiate should matter in an election. HOWEVER, I think that Obama's associations with people who have expressed hate for America with violent actions and violent words ARE an issue. I do not believe these are just ‘frequent lapses in judgment’ on the part of Obama. I truly believe the Obamas don't have genuine ‘good vibes’ for America. There is a ring of authenticity when people say ‘the Obamas do not love America”. You do not hear that about the Clinton’s, and you know McCain stood years of torture out of love for Country. Michelle Obama's un-sanitized words (before her Denver’s transformation) did not helped Barack’s case. The religion of a candidate shouldn't matter, BUT as at a minimum the President and First Lady MUST love America. This gaping hole in the Obama’s psyche can't be dressed up, or glossed over.

given the article at newsmax.com about his recent connection to khalid al monsour and the royalty of the middle east paying for his higher education, i don't doubt that he is a closet muslim. it just reinforces my theory that he is a ringer planted by the middle eastern arabs. theres something about obama I just dont trust

Should Sarah Palin say something she really did not mean to say, can we count on the media to allow Conservative members of the TV/Radio/Print media to immediately correct what Sarah meant to say? It seems that whenever Obama says stupid things, even if he may be speaking from his heart, the Liberal media immediately jump in to make their own corrections; and these stupid statements seem to come from Obama weekly.
