It's interesting to compare this story to presidential candidates Obama and McCain's proposal to increase, not decrease U.S. troops in Afghanistan. Never mind that is seems most of the increase in terrorism around the Khyber Pass is in, or originates in Pakistan, not Afghanistan.
Pakistan cannot be considered an ally because their government is unstable and frozen in uncertainty. NATO does not take the battle seriously, if it were closer to home, i.e. Kosovo they would be keenly interested. Therefore, the next presidents dilemma is to keep this from becoming another Korea/Vietnam. The border area will become another Ho Chi Mihn trail because Pakistan has no capability of controlling it, much less the will. These border conflicts will continue until the Taliban logistical lines of communication are servered, so those close to the border should move to the interior.
If Russia sends to the Afghani patriots Russian "Stingers" - whether will manage to win Afghanistan freedom and independence?
