Matt Scully, the writer of Sarah Palin's knock-out debut speech, is a compassionate and merciful man and has written about his disdain for the horrible treatment of animals by hunters. He has written a book "Dominion: The Power of Man, the Suffering of Animals, and the Call to Mercy" as well as articles about hunting, etc. which can be found at his website: http://www.matthewscully.com/sportsman_politics.htm http://www.matthewscully.com/matthew.htm Reviews of "Dominion: The Power of Man, the Suffering of Animals, and the Call to Mercy" "Scully makes an impassioned argument based on the fact that animals suffer and feel pain....Matthew Scully is clearly an intelligent man whose big heart has found a just and noble cause. His is a powerful and sometimes even inspired writer, and his devotion to his subject is so great that he left his job at the White House to promote the message of this book." --The Weekly Standard "Mr. Scully's case proved to be more powerful than I expected....a morally serious case for doing all we can to end cruelty to animals, even if that requires changing some of our eating habits..." --Fred Barnes, The Wall Street Journal "An unsettling book, one that will challenge the conflicting views most of us hold....It shines a bright light on indecent treatment kept out of the public view....It promises to stir many hearts and minds." --The Arizona Republic "Winsome and inviting....A challenging and potentially life-changing book.... Scully's book stretches our understanding of what it means to be humane." --Father Richard John Neuhaus, National Review "A remarkable book....An overwhelming case that man is abusing his stewardship of the earth." -- Joseph Sobran, The Sobran Newsletter

My God are you people in the media going to report on when and how she washes her underwear. Get a life! Go after Michelle Obama and lets hear her story she could be a big influence on Obama should he reach the white house, Give it a rest.

Shelbysez-- -come on, get smart. I no longer hunt and also feel very passionate about any living thing, suffering but there is far less suffering being mercifully shot than in dieing of starvation, disease or injury. I am sick of you persons who love to allow animals to suffer from becoming over abundant and starving to death or dieing of disease rather than supporting the controlled harvest that the hunters and only the sales of hunting licenses will finance. It is a nearly perfect system that has been in place for many years and like many other naturally good, but now lost, systems you emotionally imbalanced types are trying to destroy it. God gave us the perfect food in abundance and it is sad that many people cannot enjoy it these days. I say kill it, marinate it, and grill it. You are probably in favor of abortion on demand and euthenasia for the aged too aren't you? Most of you people are.

I knew this was coming. I thought of Ted Nugent last week when I heard about Palin's love of hunting and stocking her fridge with the venison. Good for her. A true American.

Human beings have removed the natural predators (mountain lions, wolves, etc.) in most areas of the US. When you do that their prey (deer, elk, etc.) are no longer going to have their population controlled. If these animals weren’t hunted, you would have to find some other way of controlling their population or let them starve to death. If people want to condemn hunting they need to suggest a reasonable alternative.

I agree with Musing about the media reporting on Michelle Obama for a change (no pun intended), but come on...we all know that isn't going to happen. The media is the "strong arm" of the Democratic Party whose job it is to destroy anyone and anything that is in their way of getting back into power. So on it goes...let's hear the next Palin smear!

I expect some comments condemning Palin's and Nugent's hunting, killing, and eating of wild game will be submitted by those who most likely are Democratic pro-choicers who kill millions but do not eat their kill. Such hypocrites.

Personally I prefer the taste of wild game over domesticated meat animals, and being the grandson of farmers I have access to meat that only the rich can afford.

Barracuda seems beyond cold both for her love of killing and for putting her political aspirations above her family when she has a special-needs baby and her family seems to be in shambles (daughter is an unmarried pregnant teen, just as Palin was unmarried when she got pregnant with her first child. Like mother, like daughter, by example). McCain, as an independent, I will NOT be voting for you because of your bad judgment in putting an inexperienced creepy person on your ticket! Anchorage Daily News Caribou slaughter leaves calves stranded Published: July 29th, 2008 ”Hunters from the villages of Point Hope and Kivalina are suspected of massacring more than 100 caribou and leaving at least half of them to rot on the tundra earlier this month, according to Alaska Wildlife Troopers. Calves were left stranded, some still trying to suckle milk from the decomposing cows two weeks after the slaughter." There is a photo at the Anchorage Daily News of a caribou calf as it stands by its DEAD MOTHER! Did I mention SICK! http://www.adn.com/wildlife/story/478088.html Barracuda’s speech writer’s ANTI-hunting article: http://www.matthewscully.com/sportsman_politics.htm

I lived in Alaska for eleven years. We hunted and used the meat to feed our family. I now live in the the suburbs and shop at the grocery store. I enjoyed wild game. In Alaska, hunting and eating wild game is a way of life. If you comment about something you have not experienced what weight do your comments really carry. Diane D mother of five.

To Shelbysez----At one of the most elegant and pricey restaurants in San Francisco-The Big Four- wild game is served during an annual "wild game week." Caribou, moose, elk, etc. It's fabulous. Wild game is frequently found on menus in san francisco, and elsewhere.

I have lived in both Alaska and northern Canada and can tell you that there is nothing better than fresh venison or moose meat.

I don't get the political comments. This article is about hunting and eating wild game. Where's the politics in that? Please get a life and move on to a political forum to vent if that's what you want to do.

to shelbysez, sorry but you do not represent all women in this country for your commentary on Palin. I bet you live in suburbia, pay for your lawn to be cut while your nails are manicured and if a burglar were to intrude your home, pray that the alarm button on your security system works. Your life is oblivious to the rural culture of the U.S. For other women who are in the same camp take your tiara's off. I am from the same camp as Palin and proud of it cause my experiences makes me a well rounded independent strong minded self sufficient woman. I am not easily influenced by what is popular or intimidated by your kind. You would want me on your side to use my gun skills to protect your life and family. So sorry that you feel that Palin can't work and take care of her family. More than 50% of the women in this country do so everyday and some are single moms like me as well. With the right support system and principles, which Palin has, she can do anything. And for those who criticize Palin for getting pregnant before marriage at least she had the guts and integrity to keep her child, not hide it (why should she and be ashamed for it)and support her daughter to respect life. Those who exercise such judgments are disillusioned with their own perfect families you must be one of them. Just because you can't relate to Palins experiences doesn't make her bad or wrong for hers. Why don't you get educated and read more about our early history and lifestyles of Americans? Especially those who have had to live off the land and today hunt to prevent animal starvation and over population of game? And to any who thinks I am prejudiced, I have lived equally in rural and suburban areas and know both cultures. Depending on the camp you are from, there are those who can survive and those who would perish given certain stranded situations. To the women out there would you have Hillary or Palin in the woods with you? Palin is a true grass roots politician if you know what that is and deserves more respect than the majority of silver spoon politicians. Palin represents many women in this country who break the stereotyping of women, the weaker sex model,to be extraordinary individuals. Instead of being threatened by Palins strengths perhaps you should admire them before critcizing her. By the way, shooting a gun or a rifle creates a sensation of reconciling to a powerful force that until you have experienced it you can't relate nor respect the use of the weapon. Anyone who has, knows what I am talking about. Then there are those who are too scared to reckon with that force or other things intimidating in life by hiding in their homes and attacking those who aren't afraid.
