Originally Reid wanted McCain back in DC. Then he saw the opportunity and now he says stay out. McCain can now provide some leadership in the Senate and take action on his spending reduction plan. This bailout is a transition to economic socialism, government to government economies and the Democrats want to control it. They want a bigger say in who does and doesn't get bailed and they want to use it for a reelection package. McCain has much more influence than he did when he cosponsored bill S.190. He is dropping his campaign to fight against the Democrats opportunism. Obama is trying to shame him out, but it won't work. We can only hope he is effective. Either the American people stand behind him or be prepared to take their place in the global socialist goverment, that's what Obama, Reid and Pelosi have in mind.

MG, are you realted to SDindependent? The reason I ask is because you both sound exactly alike and never have anything intelligent, constructive or substantive to say. By the way, it's baited, not bated. Most moveon.org types are a little (but not much) smarter.

Heaven forbid I should defend MoreGoop or SDindolent, but it really is "bated". The writer of this editorial has called it correctly. We are watching the last vestige of a representative government being destroyed by the pressure to bail out an extremely small percentage of the population, because they made poor financial decisions. And to think that it comes from a Republican president (though Paulson is thought to be a Democrat and has a chief adviser that is a member of the Obama campaign). No wonder I am an independent voter.

MG, SDindependent, Mag7, tlcesq .. they post here just to get people's goats. Rarely do they stick to the article at hand. They hardly ever cite facts. More often they just rant and call names, as if they were on the school playground shoving and pulling hair, trying to get everyone to agree that they're the "coolest". So - pretty much not taken seriously. But they are **very** entertaining. Every time I see one of their posts I think of Carl the groundskeeper in Caddyshack, saying "I have to laugh".

Anyone who thinks you can fix the problems created by agenda driven Crony Capitalism with agenda driven Crony Socialism is just plain ignorant!

My comment about the today's GOP in this live t.v. interview proved indeed apt given the current financial crisis caused by administration's fiscal and regulatory incompetence. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5oQdn6NvhIU

The country is in serious trouble, and what do we get from McCain and the republicans in Congress? Obstruction and grandstanding. To McCain, you have already admitted you don't know much about economics. Why not let the other 99 Senators work on the bill without brining your media circus and "Suspended Campaign" into the Senate chambers. We also would appreciate it if you could spare the time to show up at the debate this evening. Why not forward your calls to Sarah for a few hours, I am sure she can handle the situation. To the Republicans in Congress, don't you speak to the president, the leader of your party, any more? This is your mess, you are in no position to lead, so join in the effort, or get out of the way!

We are facing another depression and it is time for our leaders to come together to reach an agreement that does not lead to a more socialized country. Dems and Obama are on the side of socialism McCain is the best hope to come to an agreement. He is the leader of the Republican Party and should be on hand Obama is supposed to be leader of the democrat party and shows his lack of executive experience by just talking.

Read up on how the Democrats are trying to earmark funds for ACORN through the $700 billion Wall Street bailout. The fact is that corrupt members of ACORN have actually benefitted from the very "predatory lending" practices that it claims to fight against. 1. http://www.gettingpaidtowatch.com/2008/09/13/the-link-between-obama-acorn-the-woods-fund-earmarks-and-the-mortgage-crisis/ 2. http://ngoldfarb.wordpress.com/2008/09/27/obamas-64-billion-earmark-for-lefty-acorn-radicals-who-got-him-elected/

Clinton's appointment of Andrew Cuomo as the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development that led directly to the crisis we are in today. 1.) Turned the Federal Housing Administration mortgage program into a cake-walk for borrowers, with very high loan limits and requiring little or no money down. 2.) He legalized “kickbacks” to brokers, which have probably resulted in the sale of overpriced loans. 3.) Required a “quantum leap” in the number of affordable loans that Government Sponsored Enterprises would have to back. 4.) http://www.villagevoice.com/2008-08-05/news/how-andrew-cuomo-gave-birth-to-the-crisis-at-fannie-mae-and-freddie-mac/1
