I can see why the Republicans are taking exception. The restriction on executive salaries is fluff, class warfare, however a merit based system should be implemented to assign responsibility and accountability. Allowing judges to adjust payments would corrupt the banking system, their risk assessments and management, especially if judges are politically appointed and not elected. Government ownership of companies is out of the question. The government is in charge of the oversight constraints and the taxes, they could determine if a company succeeds or fails and then buy it out or have it bought out. This is a lousy bill, the foundation is vulnerable to political corruption and is slanted to political control of the economic system. It is no wonder that Obama, Reid and Pelosi wanted McCain to stay out. "Through control of the government by the Democratic Party coalition, led by anti-corporate forces, a progressive program regulating the corporations, redistributing income, fostering economic growth and expanding social programs could be realized." - WHERE WE STAND The Political Perspective of the Democratic Socialists of America - Section 4. If the Republicans lose the battle on this one, the add ons of the Democrat proposal will ensure they will never win another one.
As a Republican it bothers me to see our party so divided in a time of crisis. McCain hasn't done a very good job of uniting, and I really don't think he has the chops when it comes to these economic issues. I don't think I will be able to give him my vote.
The RNC needs to fire Mccain and appoint Mitt Romney as the Republican candidate. Republicans seem to be on a suicide death wish for nominating this guy. As a conservative I've just had it with both parties who don't represent the people. This lousy bill is nothing more than socialism that the Democrats and liberals are salivating over.
Obama, in all his limited experience, has never accomplished anything significant through "reaching across the aisle," and it is clear that as the Senate's most liberal member, he cannot do so now when so much is at stake. This is much more valuable exposure than any debate. This is the real thing.
The "full-throated" dialogue in the Oval Office is the current evidence of his inability while given the lead by Reid and company. This, despite some sense of a budding agreement earlier in the day.
On the one hand, Obama voices an awareness of the dangers that accrue from "injecting" rival candidates into the sensitive negotiation, but now that he's injected himself into the fray, there is no deal. This is not a man who can close a deal; it's a man who is more likely to be a deal breaker. Again, this gives a much more revealing look at a candidate's capability to handle the responsibilities of office than any formal debate might offer the public.
If I understand this correctly, the lenders have mixed good loans and bad loans together, and then offerred those loans to others for a fee. Basically, some of the loans, if not a majority of the loans, are good loans, but moving toward collection as the need for lender solvency is increasing.
Some of the loans were just bad loans, but they are mixed into the whole, and for some unknown reason, no one wants to go in and sort this out.
The President failed to enforce a great deal of the law involing illegal aliens. I suspect a whole bunch of banks were very sloppy when checking I.D. thinking there was money in those hills, and they wanted to participate. I have to ask what percentage of those loans were made to illegal aliens and in contridiction to the instructions of the law. I am betting there were a lot of those giggle, giggle loans and for that reason, I now adamently appose any bail out. It is past time for a sort out and not a bail out. Let the bankers who made the ugly loans to the illegal aliens eat those loans and let the American Citizens who are trapped in this mess, out if it is an orginal loan by by the borrower. Refinanced by the lender? NO!
obama is more worried about his future then the American people. Me and my family will NOW be voting for McCain. Thanks for helping us switch obama!
The Democrat team of Obama/Reid/Pelosi is attempting to provide $700 billion to $1 trillion of (y)our tax dollars when noone is being held professionally responsible, investigated, and/or prosecuted and convicted of criminal activity. It has already been revealed Sen. Dodd obtained a ‘sweet deal’ on his own mortgage. Did Sen. Dodd report the ‘sweet deal’ on his campaign report? Why is he still serving as Chairman of the Senate Banking Committee? Why is Sen. Dodd not being investigated? Why is the Democrat Party allowing Dodd to operate as Chairman? Does the Democrat Party allow all unprofessional, unethical, and/or criminal activity? Does the Obama/Reid/ Pelosi team even care about forcing the taxpayers to pay upwards of $1 Billion Dollars? From the report http://www.opensecrets.org/news/2008/09/update-fannie-mae-and-freddie.html, Sen. Dodd got $165,400 in political contributions. Obama received $126,329 in less than 4 years. Why? Each responsible individual must be held accountable.
Finger pointing from both sides is rediculous, since they are both complicite. Look at their doners, all corporations, and many of the largest doners are the very institutions which caused this mess. Is it no wonder they don't want oversight? Obama has a track record of accepting cash fron brokerage firms as does McCain. We are being hornswaggled and led down the primrose path by the fascist.
The Mother of All Bailouts reportedly includes $100 million in funding for the left-wing housing entitlement thugs and heavily tax-subsidized fraudsters at ACORN who were largely responsible for the housing crisis in the first place.
ACORN routinely says it will clean up its act. Yet, given its decade-long history of voter fraud, embezzlement, and misuses of taxpayer funds, ACORN's pattern of fraud can no longer be dismissed as a series of unfortunate events.
- The Futures Markets are plunging this morning
- it's going to be another day of dramatic losses on the Dow Jones today.
- The dollar is in free fall
- Last night, the world witnessed the largest American bank failure in history with WaMu
- At this moment, the financial system are refusing to lend and hoarding cash.
This total collapse of credit is exactly what many economists say was part of the run on the banks that brought on the 1929 Great Depression.
.......and just a week ago, the McCain-Palin campaign was preaching on the trail that the "economy is sound" -- "the fundamentals are strong"
The global financial markets as well as the American electorate are utterly stunned and amazed at how the Republican Administration was able to gut and burn the worlds greatest, most powerful economy ever in history in just a short, seven and-half years.
Moniquemyers44, your assertion that Bush was behind the drive for home ownership is silly. This mess was an experiment in social engineering by Democrats and Republicans. You are right these bad loans weren't all given to illegals but if you lived in the southwest you would know that many illegals were in homes because of this mess.
You are obviously a liberal because you seem to put blame on corporations but you are only partly right. No one is free of blame in this. Politicians for pushing their social engineering experiment, home owners borrowing above their means and/or betting on selling before their ARM came due and corporations bowing to policital pressure and individual, corporate and political greed are all to blame.
What we don't have is a political infrastructure that can resolve this mess.
If we are to afix blame then we need to blame a failed political structure first because they helped to build a failed corporate structure. Lets stop putting on our limousine liberal, country club conservative and loopy libertarian tshirts and vote in people that will fix the political structure. Lets demand autonomy from political parties from our representatives. Lets get them to actually vote for us.
Add ons by Democrats student loans, car loans, credit card debt. Now I wonder what age group are they catering to to garner votes? This is not about us it is all about who can provide the best package to get elected. We are but apimple on an elephants rear end.
This is a Washington control issue at the tax payers expenese. OBAMA DO YOUR JOB. YOU ARE STILL A SENATOR AND MY TAX DOLLARS ARE PAYING YOU TO WORK IN WASHINGTON NOT PREPARING FOR A DEBATE TEST. OBAMA IS ABOUT ME..ME..ME.NEVER HAS BEEN ABOUT THIS COUNTRY. EVERY MOVE HAS BEEN A CALCULATED MOVE SUPPORTED BY THE FAR LEFT TO GET HIM ELECTED. WRIGHT/PFLEGGER/AYERS/CORE/SOROS ETC.
CONNECT THE DOTS..FOLLOW THE MONEY
OBAMA TOOK THE LAST LIFE BOAT OUT OF WASHINGTON AND LEFT THE PASSENGERS OF THE SHIP TO BAIL. SHIP GOES DOWN THEIR FAULT..SHIP STAYS A FLOAT I WAS RIGHT.
TRUE LEADERSHIP FROM OBAMA..UGH
TOWER OF JELLY UNDER FIRE
John McCain. Tell your friends in the house to "put country first."
"THEY SHOULD RATHER LOSE AN ELECTION THAN LOSE OUR ECONOMY!!!"
I read with interest that Obama TRIED to draw McCain into the discussion, acting on instructions from the leaders in the Democratic party.
McCain like a true leader did not fall for the trap.
Obama is and always has been about Self, Party, Wealth, Power with the will of the people and his country being close to last in his priorities.
The Democrats were trying to PLAY extreme politics by announcing that there was a done deal BEFORE McCain got into DC. The MSM portrayed the deal as nearly complete. BUT they failed to tell the true story as usual, there was a lot of grandstanding by OBAMA and his supporters.
Obama is intelligent, a truly gifted speaker, but in his entire life, I do not think he has done anything that is not preplanned IN ADVANCE. That his ambition led him to get into community organizing because he had desires to get into politics, this was used as a stepping stone into Harvard. And you can follow HIS STORY the rest of the way.
If you listen to those supposedly in the know in Washington, this is the worst crisis in the financial history of the United States, excluding the great depression.
Obama would rather be on the campaign trail, running ads and debating McCain.
(Which by the way, he has FAILED to do up until this time, from FEAR of looking bad.
His idea of crisis leadership is to multi-task, stay in communication with his supporters, let those that KNOW SENATE POLITICS make the decisions and he then will take credit for their efforts. He may look at this as the task of delegation.
When he PROUDLY stood up on live TV and stated.
"I have been in constant with those making the decisions in Washington (included all Democrat names), I KNOW what is going on, I told them that if they needed me, I'd be back in Washington."
He clearly demonstrated his priorities.. and it was not his country.
