Education is over-funded. We spend way more per pupil than almost any other industrialized nation, but our students rank among the worst. Why would throwing more money at the problem work? If you want to improve public education in the US, you must break the backs of the unions. The union's first and last priority is putting taxpayer dollars in their member's and leader's pockets. Unfortunately, the NEA pretty much owns the Democratic party, so any kind of meaningful school reform is impossible.
The answer is to completely privatize education. Competition will always create a better product/service than monopolies. The government runs few things well, and education is near the top of the list.
Why do those who can afford it put their children in private schools?
Even staunch advocates of public education, such as the Socialist candidate for President Obama, don't want their children handicapped by substandard education; they only want everyone else's children to remain stupid.
Maybe it's their way of reducing competition for the best community organizer jobs.
