GREEN & GLOVER: Cameos get ‘Nutty’

Griff Jenkins, the plucky Fox News correspondent known for ambushing his interview subjects by shoving a microphone in their faces, was out of his rough-and-tumble element Friday night for a more civilized affair: the opening night of Septime Webre’s “The Nutcracker,” performed by the Washington Ballet at the Warner Theatre.

True to form, Mr. J was not content staying in the audience, so he elbowed his way into the cast for a “celebrity cameo.”

“I played the role of Ambassador in the party scene. It was absolutely fantastic,” the 30-something journo tells us via e-mail.

Those Griff fans who admire him for more than his reportage will be disappointed to hear that his small role did not require him to wear tights, but that did not stop him from praising those who did.

“I was so honored to be among such incredibly talented dancers, and Septime Webre [the company’s artistic director] truly captures the magic of ‘The Nutcracker’! Bravo Septime and company!” Mr. Jenkins is not the only one giving the Nutcracker, the Rat King, and the Sugar Plum Fairy some company onstage. The Washington Ballet has included a slew of other local personalities to keep your eyes peeled for when you go see the Christmas classic.

Cynne Simpson, ABC 7 News anchor was slated to be in the show on Saturday, as was Chi Chang, the Live Terra Cotta Warrior, from the National Geographic Museum’s well-known exhibit.

Ski Johnson, the jazz recording artist was scheduled to make an appearance yesterday, as was CBS 9 News anchor Andrea Roane for a special show for a Girl Scout troop. Way to earn another badge, Andrea! Look out for Bob Madigan, WTOP’s Man About Town on Wednesday and Holly Morris of Fox 5 Morning News on Thursday.

Other dances

G2 caught up with “Dancing With the Stars” personality Julianne Hough at the opening of the Target To-Go store at Wisconsin Avenue and M streets in Georgetown on Friday to get her take on former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay’s performance on the reality dance competition show.

“You know what, he did great! I think anybody who actually goes for it deserves at least some kind of credit. Of course, with his feet, that obviously held him back a little bit — not that he has two left ones but that he actually had an injury,” she said with a laugh. Then she added, “He did a great job, though!”

At the movies

Not at “The Nutcracker” Friday night, but still enjoying a night out was Kara Kennedy Allen, the oldest child of the late Sen. Edward M. Kennedy and big sis of Rep. Patrick J. Kennedy, Rhode Island Democrat.

At the AMC Loews Georgetown 14 theater for a 5 p.m. movie, she was sans makeup in a comfy dark track suit, appparently by herself. She picked up popcorn and a soda before heading into a theater.
