Translation--Another round of financial drinks before we go belly up Argentina style. The way of this economic crisis is better policy not increased deficits to create make work jobs. Among the policy changes should be revisiting globalization and NAFTA, restoring the wage structure by dealing effectively with illegal immigration, and ending our budget busting global cop foreign policy. (MARK KLEIN, M.D.)
Pay and benefits seems like code for flopping over his masters the unions. This IS not the time to create greater impediments to employment, let employers start to make a profit they are the true job creators. Mitch McConnell is spot on. TARP showed the old maxim of "Not enough time to do it right, but plenty of time to do it over" applies to government spending as well. Problem will not only be from funding dubious projects, but what special interest groups will be recipients of tax dollars for who know what. I'm thinking the crooks at ACORN. Before lefties jump on this remember the millions swiped by somebody's brother over at that den of thieves.
Energy, National Security, Environment and the Economy are not four different issues; they are four aspects of the same issue. That issue is energy self-sufficiency. Initiatives, all within the range of current technology, would include expanded use of domestic sources (especially Alaskan reserves and Increased off-shore exploitation of proven reserves), increased use of coal for domestic electrical power, increased use of nuclear energy for domestic electrical power, coal liquefaction for portable liquid fuel, solar (yes, solar) distillation of ethanol for portable liquid fuel and, where feasible, increased exploitation of wind and tidal sources. Implementing these would increase employment, as American labor builds and supports the needed infrastructure. They would reduce importation of fuel, resulting in better balance of trade, and stabilize the American currency. Finally, this would reduce opportunities for funding terrorism. A significant portion can be accomplished in four years. There is no area of domestic policy more important than American self-sufficiency. The significance of this area overrides all other domestic policy, simply because, without self-sufficiency, all other social initiatives ultimately doom America to bankruptcy.
Perhaps the Bushs can help us out of this mess they helped get us in to. I'll have to admit it's admirable that they are willing to meet with new adm. officials to try to work it out. And I'm hopeful.
