Wow! What a stretcher: "... in which 1.5 million innocent Palestinians are caught."
They are NOT innocent. We have all seen them cheering when their side ruthlessly murders an innocent Westerner or Christian.
They got the government they wanted in an open election. The Palestinians elected Hamas. Before that, it was Arafat.
It's time the Palestinians clean up their act. It's also time for writers to stop making phony apologies for the Palestinians. It's also time for Western governments to cut off the aid money.
In his rambling thesis on how to improve the Israel-Palestine conflict, Mr. Asali ignores the key ingredient. Neither Hamas, nor Fatah, for that matter, desire a two-state solution. They desire Israel to be destroyed. Israel is expected to negotiate peace with people who do not want Israel to exist.
All negotiations centered on "land for peace" are a fraud and a charade. Israel exchanges land for no peace at all, they just end up giving more land to those who wish to destroy its country.
Their choice to be governed by a terrorist organization founded to wage a holy struggle to destroy Israel's existence proves that the people of Gaza have no taste for any lasting "peace."
I think Mr. Asali will have better luck writing this pablum in the NYT where the readers there will buy his story.
