That this low-life crook is even being considered for a high-ranking leadership positon makes me want to puke. He is a disgrace and so is Obama for nominating him.

does this mean we all can not pay taxes until we want a job?

How times have changed. I remember when any kind of scandal would disqualify a candidate and tarnish a political reputation for good, now it's just another addition to the resume.

This was only a "common mistake" according to Mr. Gibbs. Yet, he only happened to correct it just before his nomination. Some Bush nominees who made this "common mistake" were forced to withdraw their nominations. Certainly a man who makes such mistakes should not be in charge of the IRS.

Who can blame this guy for being reluctant to fund the welfare state and other federal boondoggles? I think it's a good thing when the head of IRS is a tax resister!

Mr.Reid. Is every case of not paying taxes a case of the hiccups. How can this man now oversee the Internal Revenue Service, an agency that prosecutes people who fail to pay taxes? And I say this despite not voting for Obama but agreeing initially with this appointment.

The fact that he has not withdrawn says volumes about his ethics - or that he figures he is a shoe in. If this man is confirmed, I will have lost what very little hope I had that we will survive the next four years. This is just another example of the inequity - if this had been an average Joe he would have already had his accounts frozen and his house seized by the IRS, in stead he just says oops, sorry? I am not buying neglecting to pay $35K in taxes is a COMMON mistake. Secondly, why couldn't he hire someone that didn't need employment papers - so he wouldn't have to pay a fair wage is my guess.

* I once made a $20k honest mistake on my taxes and received no mercy. IRS wanted the $20k along with penalties and interest. I am NOT a tax nor financial expert. This clown is BOTH. They say HE MADE AN “HONEST” MISTAKE?! Not Likely. His actions at the time he learned he might be O-man’s appointment indicate that he knew he owed the money and was withholding it. I wonder how many other “honest mistakes” he might make if he is approved to be Treasury Secretary, who will oversee the IRS. O-man is so tainted with the manure of Chicago politics, he doesn’t even know what to look for in a good political appointment (or, maybe the good ones just keep turning down his offers).

Mr. Geithner is supposed to be an expert in money issues. That is why he is supposed to be the Treasury Secretary. Mr. Geithner had AUDITS and still didn't pay. He knew he owed money and didn't bother paying up until he was being vetted by Obama's team. It sure sounds like he didn't care and knows what he was doing.

Another crony with no integrity. He is an elitist who thinks the laws and rules apply to everyone else. How can he make decisions on the IRS and demand we pay our "fair share of taxes'". He will be appointed and then busines as usual. Men in power positions stealing the treasury blind. CHANGE?

So Geithner can use the excuse if was an honest mistake and not pay any penalties. I will use that excuse this year. I wonder how far that will get me? If he can't keep his own house in order how is he going to keep the US Treasury in order?

concerned_houstonian

I do not believe that Mr. Geithner should be confirmed due to these facts. The average citizen would not be given such a pass from the IRS or other government agencies if he/she were in the same predicament. I think his lack of integrity should disqualify him.
