What is wrong with these people in government? Billions of tax dollars have been spent to build Gitmo. Many more Billions of tax dollars will have to be spent to house the same enemy combatant Jihadis in a different place. This closing down Gitmo is a STUPID IDEA. I'm SURE Islamic countries will all just absolutely LOVE us, the U.S., after Obama closes Gitmo.

The first Obama bad fiscal decision as Kalinephoenix points out. Any state receiving these scum will demand huge "infrastructure" funding. Mostly that's all the Congressional delegation from Kansas are posturing. Expect a request from Kansas for airfield expansion, roads, hotels and first responder services in order to handle all the MSM and ACLU lawyers. Before Obama, all we had to be concerned about were terrorists capturing hostages and demanding Gitmo prisoners be released. Now Obama has made it possible for an armed assault to free them on American soil. To help that along, Obama will insure our borders are even less guarded than today and likely create a special TVR (Terrorist Visiting Relatives) visa as part of his open borders humanitarian aid package. For an additional fee, Hillary will cheek-kiss their wife(s). It's all feelings now with no concern about realities and prudence. This is Obama's first step in wasting your money and making sure your life is more threatened starting on day 1 of his administration. You should also set the Homeland Security Threat level to Orange and be prepared to move it to Red on January 21, 2009. And see if you can buy some beheading insurance for your homeowners policy and prisoner escape insurance for your auto policy.

Just send the detainees to Illois or any other state that voted for Obama. After all, we all have to sacrifice, right Mr. Obama?

I just don’t get it: Why are we supposed to be wanting to be loved by the same Islamic countries who bring us the Jihadis that want to kill us and cut-off our heads? America is much better off, if the Islamic countries FEAR us. Fear makes respect in their culture. Those followers of devil-Muhammad think we are WEAK because of the way Americans politicians want to be liked by the world. Our politicians have no clue and, as a result, put us in greater danger. This proposal for closing Gitmo is one of the most foolish I have seen in quite some time. Right now, the enemy combatants, who were captured on the battlefield while trying to kill Americans (or trained and ready to do this), are “housed” in a multi-billion dollar high security area on a military base, 90 miles off-shore from America. We will have to spend millions of tax dollars to “un-build” the Gitmo facilities, since the Islamic countries don’t like their wayward citizens to be held there. Our politicians (I cannot call them “my leaders”) now want to put us in danger by importing Jihadi killers onto American soil. Which one of these politicians will step-up and take the blame when the Jihadis get loose and saw-off the heads of women and children in nearby base housing or the nearby town? Remember, these Jihadis are not “criminals” they are something like “prisoners of war”--trained killers. These men were following the commandments of the Koran and killing the kafirs (non-believers). During WW2, did we release POWs from Japan and Germany DURING the war because other countries were crying about their loved ones being held without a trial? In a word: NO. Jihadis that have been released from Gitmo because they were “deemed no threat to America” have been killed on the battlefield as they tried to kill Americans. These people will always be a threat to our health and well being. Do not close Gitmo. Keep Jihadis off-shore. Army Airborne Ranger & American Nationalist

AS A US CITIZEN I DO NOT WANT TERRORISTS HOUSED INSIDE THE UNITED STATES - NO EXCEPTIONS! Why don't we just paint a huge bulls eye and give the terrorists a map? It is DUMB DUMB DUMB to close Gitmo.

One might think that those of us posting here have been reading too much Tom Clancy or Vince Flynn. The fact of the matter is that the possibility of a jailbreak on the part of terrorists to rescue their "brothers" is highly likey. Even if it weren't the terrorists themselves, they could "outsource" the work to independent contractors like MS-13, the Mexican Mafia, or any number of black street gangs who take their ideology from The Nation of Islam. We also have all heard of the massive recruitment efforts being conducted in our jails by Islamic radicals. Can anyone imagine the impact of putting these hard core firebrads into a jail population full of people who are US citizens, but have assorted reasons to hate this gov. & this society. It would be a very fertile field for recruiting malcontents to commit acts of terror in this coutry. I'd like to think that the "not in my back yard" syndrome will come into play here, but I'm not holding my breath. Obama hopes that by doing this, some of our "standing" in the world will be improved. He obviously cares not one bit for the safety of the American people, otherwise, he'd keep these scumbags where they are. Kalinphoenix has it correct, though. This will be percieved as a sign of weakness & only invite more attacks on us. Not to worry, though. I'm sure that if a way can be found to blame such things on the Bush admin., it'll be done. I can only hope that, IF, G*d forbid, something like that were to happen, the public would see through the obfuscations of the Obama admin. & his fellatious media guard dogs. Remember the "comforting" words of Biden: "It won't be readily apparent that he will be handling this crisis correctly." Gee, I feel safer already. Especially in light of this little revalation.

Can we have a little imagination along with the hefty serving of the "Change We Need?" Specifically, these detainees would be appropriately billeted at Elmendorf Air Force Base in Alaska. Palin would go for it with vigor, the escape factor is non-existent, and I assure you, having spent considerable time at EAFB, that the detainees will be certain they have not been sent to Paradise. They may want to go there quickly, however, after just a few months at my recommended venue.

This is proof that Obama and the Dems aren't living in the real world! The prisoners at Gitmo were considered too dangerous to be allowed on US soil and now the Dems are planning to bring them to the heartland!! This plan was well know before the election and supposedly rational people still voted for Obama.

Shore10

It will certainly make it easier for Code Pink and all the other far lefty side shows to show up and protest the prisoners unfair treatment. It will also make it easier for an undocumented terrorist to make an explosive statement in what ever state the prisoners end up in. Let the freak show begin.

Cool! We can let them "escape" one by one and see what happens to them.

ttiwkram. I agree completely. "Shot While Trying to Escape" sounds like a plausibly deniable headline.

Put them on a plane, fly over the ocean, and push them out. Oops, somebody accidentally opened the door and they fell out.

I think a new Gitmo type facility should be constructed in Chappaqua, NY. They already allow sex offenders to reside there, so terrorists might also be acceptable. Although rosieb's idea does have merit.

Great. Somebody should ask the Gitmo detainees what they want? In Gitmo, many of them get BBQs, soccer, time for prayer and many other extras. I wonder what it would be like for them in Leavenworth. I'm guessing if they had a choice they would stay in Gitmo that is if they can't go back home to plot another attack against Americans.
