Top 5: Lame attempts at milking past success

Seven years after the runaway success of the little indie that could, “My Big Fat Greek Wedding,” actress Nia Vardalos is — according to the trailer of this weekend’s “My Life in Ruins” — “finally going to Greece.” If past is prologue, we all know what she’s going to find there — a turkey.

1. Jaws 2 — With 1975’s nautical thriller “Jaws,” wunderkind Steven Spielberg paved the way for the modern blockbuster franchise. Quality control, thereafter, became a quaint notion.

2. The Last Don — What made the backers of this 1997 Mafia miniseries think they could replicate the formula of the “Godfather” franchise? As “The Godfather: Part III” proved, not even the auteur himself, Francis Ford Coppola, could manage the feat.

3. Archie Bunker’s Place — Norman Lear was said to have been opposed to this inferior spinoff (1979-83) of the groundbreaking sitcom “All in the Family.” Smart man.

4. Bat Out of Hell III: The Monster Is Loose — All right, all right. “I’d Do Anything for Love (But I Won’t Do That)” was a huge single, propelling the success of Meat Loaf’s 1993 follow-up to “Bat Out of Hell.” But the jig decidedly was up by the time of this 2006 installment.

5. The Doors of the 21st Century — A stool may be able to stand on three legs, but the Doors, sans Jim Morrison, can’t.
