Coast Guard awards icebreaker deal
SEATTLE | The Coast Guard has awarded Todd Pacific Shipyards Corp. a follow-on contract to continue maintenance on Polar Class icebreakers.
Todd Pacific Shipyards, based in Seattle, was awarded a $29 million, five-year contract if all options are exercised.
As part of the deal, Todd Pacific Shipyards will continue to provide Polar Class icebreakers with maintenance services. The contract includes options to support the Coast Guard’s Polar Star WAGB-10 and Polar Sea WAGB-11.
The maintenance also includes availability planning and generalized ship maintenance, and repairs as needed, with emphasis on propulsion and deck machinery work, company officials said.

BAE to upgrade B-kit armor
SEALY | The Army has awarded BAE Systems a follow-on contract for the delivery of additional tactical-vehicle armor kits to strengthen protections for troops.
British company BAE was awarded the contract to support the Long-Term Armor Strategy-configured Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles (FMTV). Under the $190 million deal, BAE will deliver more than 5,100 of its B-kit armor upgrades for integration with the FMTV.
Officials said that by installing the B-kits, the FMTV can operate with increased protection during periods when threat levels are higher.
“This contract demonstrates the U.S. Army’s commitment to the Long-Term Armor Strategy and the Army’s confidence in the performance and adaptability of the Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles,” said Chris Chambers, BAE vice president of medium/heavy vehicles.
