ANALYSIS/OPINION:

I want to thank The Washington Times for its excellent editorial, “Stripping eighth-graders” (Editorial, Monday). As your editorial made clear, what was missing in the actions of the officials who strip-searched April Redding, a 13-year-old student, in Safford United School District No. 1 in Arizona was common sense.

Sensible adults used to be able to distinguish between dangerous substances and an over-the-counter analgesic such as ibuprofen. All too often, however, intelligent thought and common sense seem to go out the window, and arbitrary, outrageous conduct takes their place.
