I missed the ceremony, but I read your story about Gen. Jack Nicholson ("Long-delayed Silver Star to be awarded," Nation, Oct. 28). It brought me to tears of admiration and pride for Gen. Nicholson and the American military. With politicians and agendized groups destroying the best this country stands for, it was so uplifting to read his words and to learn that the good values he carried through the toughest times of his life resonate with freedom-loving people not only in this country but worldwide.

Thank you so much, Gen. Nicholson, for your service and for being an inspiration. I am very honored to have known you.
