A statement from Robert J. Kabel, chairman of the D.C. Republican Committee, on last week’s Republican gubernatorial victories in New Jersey and Virginia and on the upcoming races in the District:
“[Chris] Christie went into areas of New Jersey and campaigned on a message that resonated with urban voters, like a need for more transparency, education reform and less crime. [Robert F.] McDonnell made his campaign theme all about job creation. Both candidates did well by appealing to moderate and Democratic voters. Last night’s victories only reinforce the idea that Republicans can win in traditionally Democratic areas with the right message.
“The DCGOP will run candidates in 2010 that will resonate with urban-Democratic voters who want options in who they may select for elected office.”
