Marion Barry in hospital again

Marion Barry, a D.C. Council member and former mayor, has been hospitalized for dehydration.

Mr. Barry, 73, will remain in the hospital for several days while recovering, spokeswoman Natalie Williams said Tuesday morning.

He has been hospitalized several times in recent years, including a stay in February for a kidney transplant and at least one return for complications.

Mr. Barry, a Democrat, was absent from a D.C. Council session Tuesday in which a bill to legalize same-sex marriage in the District of Columbia was expected to be introduced.

In May, he was the lone holdout on the 13-member council against a measure to recognize same-sex marriages performed in other jurisdictions. The legislation became law in July.
