The Jets must adjust to life without Kris Jenkins anchoring their defensive line.
The New York nose tackle was placed on season-ending injured reserve Monday with a torn ACL in his left knee.
The four-time Pro Bowl selection was injured making a tackle in the second quarter of the Jets’ 16-13 overtime loss to Buffalo on Sunday.
BENGALS: Defensive end Antwan Odom will miss the rest of the season because of a torn Achilles tendon, costing Cincinnati its top pass rusher.
Odom had surgery on his right leg and was placed on injured reserve. The Bengals didn’t immediately fill his roster spot.
MCNAIR: Text messages show Sahel Kazemi asked former NFL quarterback Steve McNair to transfer $2,000 into her bank account hours before police say she shot him to death, then turned the gun on herself.
Nashville police released the text messages as part of a case summary and detailed the exchanges between the two hours before the July 4 murder-suicide.
Kazemi texted McNair on July 3 to say she was so stressed she might have a breakdown and asked for money to pay cell phone bills. One text said she might need to go to a hospital because she could hardly breathe.
CARDINALS: Arizona receiver Anquan Boldin has a sprained right ankle that makes his status uncertain for Sunday night’s game at the New York Giants.
The three-time Pro Bowl player was injured in the second quarter of Sunday’s 27-3 victory over Seattle. He returned to play in the third quarter but was removed from the game with the Cardinals comfortably ahead. Coach Ken Whisenhunt said X-rays after the game showed no broken bones.
FALCONS: Atlanta cornerback Brian Williams will miss the rest of the season with a knee injury suffered in Sunday night’s victory over Chicago.
Coach Mike Smith said Williams tore the ACL “and some other things” in his right knee. Smith said Williams faces reconstructive knee surgery.
49ERS: San Francisco linebacker Jeff Ulbrich won’t play again this season because of a concussion. He might be done altogether.
The 49ers placed the 32-year-old on injured reserve, ending his season. He suffered a concussion on the opening kickoff against St. Louis on Oct. 4 and was examined by a neurologist last week. Coach Mike Singletary said the team concluded it was in Ulbrich’s best interest to go on IR.
STEELERS: Kicker Jeff Reed was cited by Pittsburgh city police for public intoxication and disorderly conduct outside a bar a couple of blocks from where the team beat Cleveland a few hours earlier.
Police said Reed was cited outside McFadden’s Bar about 9 p.m. Sunday. Reed kicked two field goals in the 27-14 victory.
PANTHERS: The NFL suspended Carolina defensive back Dante Wesley one game without pay for launching himself into defenseless Tampa Bay punt returner Clifton Smith.
Wesley left his feet and hit Smith in the neck and head with his forearm and shoulder as Smith waited to field a punt. Smith sustained a concussion, and both benches emptied onto the field. Wesley was ejected.
BILLS: Quarterback Trent Edwards requires further evaluation after sustaining the second concussion of his NFL career. The starter is uncertain to play at Carolina this weekend.
Coach Dick Jauron said Edwards was healthy enough to travel home with the team after he was knocked out in the second quarter of a 16-13 overtime win at the New York Jets.
“We’ll take that day to day and see how he comes out of this thing,” Jauron said.
JAGUARS: Cornerback Rashean Mathis has a broken index finger on his left hand and might need surgery to repair ligament damage.
Coach Jack Del Rio said Mathis, the team’s top defensive back, will have more tests to determine the severity of the injury. Del Rio said Mathis might need surgery but added that it would not end his season.
