Petraeus: I’m not a politician, never will be one

- Associated Press - Sunday, August 15, 2010

WASHINGTON (AP) — Gen. David H. Petraeus says he's not a politician and never will be one.

The popular Army four-star general, who took charge of the war in Afghanistan in July, has been rumored to covet the Oval Office. But he told NBC's "Meet the Press" in an interview broadcast Sunday that he's making it clear that he has no desire to run for president.

Gen. Petraeus, who's been credited with a successful war strategy in Iraq, said he can dismiss "with absolute conviction" the idea that he could become a politician. And as for trying to become commander in chief, he said, "No way, no how."
