Top honors at stake in LPGA Tour Championship

- Associated Press - Wednesday, December 1, 2010

ORLANDO, FLA. (AP) - The LPGA Tour Championship is more than just a season finale this year.

Five players are competing for player of the year honors and the top spot in the world rankings. All that will be decided when the tournament begins Thursday at Grand Cypress Golf Club.

For the first time in a decade, Lorena Ochoa and Annika Sorenstam won't win player of the year. That leaves a handful of players in the field with an opportunity to take home the LPGA's top honors.

Jiyai Shin and Na Yeon Choi are looking to be the first Koreans to win player of the year. Cristie Kerr could be the first American since Beth Daniel in 1994 to claim the award. Yani Tseng of Tawain and Ai Miyazato of Japan are also in contention.
